Leading importers

Leading exporters:

40:
New Zealand
13:
Australia
12: South Africa
10: Samoa
7: England
6: Argentina
4: Tonga
3: Fiji
2: Hong Kong, USA, Zimbabwe
1:
Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Canada, Israel, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Trinidad & Tobago, Uzbekistan

66 of the players will be New Zealand born, and 40 of those players will play not play for the All Blacks, Samoa has 17 player all born in New Zealand, Georgia, Romania and Argentina however have no players born outside their nation, there are 33 nations represented in total at this World Cup

In 2007 Italy had the most imports with 15, Georgia and Romania had no imports like 2011, New Zealand exported 26 players, and likewise there were 33 nations represented at the World Cup

NOTE:
All birthplaces are taken from the official RWC website, American Samoan players are part of the Manu Samoa nation so I counted them as Samoans not American Samoan, 6 of the 10 Samoan exports are American Samoan.

why import players ? I do not understand/approve it

i know its nit picky but some of these players may have been born outside of there country but both parents are of the nationality and moved back at a young age
eg rog and heaslip

and i know its true for a lot of the other imports

Same for Parisse, Fanks, Dusautoir, Shaw and I guess Moore.

the list is simply players born outside the nation

I know that players like Heaslip, Parisse etc are not imports, please don't lecture me on that

I couldn't think of a better way of writing it, which is why I wrote imports, it's a lot easier than "players born outside country of representation" over and over

I think it's interesting. I knew NZ were the dominant force but I didn't know they were churning out that many.
In the end it'll be the SH teams (especially AB's) that has a vastly superior try count to everyone else.

Italy have 6 Argentina players, so they are our new Argentina - I knew it, what a scam. It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

I'm surprised that there isn't so many South Africans in the England squad...

we have a joke here about the england cricket team that has 4 or 5 South Africans in their squad:

Where does the england players stay when the tour South Africa?

At their parents!!

p.s. Pocock was born in Zimbabwe, not South Africa!

I hope Stephen Jones publishes an article on this and the whole "NZ the poacher nation" myth can be put to rest.

Being born and raised in NZ makes them NZers with Samoan heritage, not Samoans.
They will still claim to be Samoans the same way most other Samoans not born in the country but have the bloodline and the same way I do (Im a born Aussie with Samoan decent on my mothers side).

I agree with that. Ireland is still genetically quite homogeneous. We are mainly white stock - a mixture of Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Norman, Viking, and Basque? stock - with most being of the first 4. But there are obviously some exceptions. Simon Zebo of Munster is the only that comes to mind. He's a wing for Munster and probably a bit too young for the world cup. Hopefully, next time around he'll be good enough and challenging. But he's Irish - Irish Mother even, as well as growing up there. His heritage isn't even fully 'foreign'.
