I have being playing Rugby Union for a little now, but my scrummaging isn't very good. I'm around 5,11ft and weigh around 14 stone but I need a technique, what could I do?

I find it hard to get lower than them because they're usually smaller than me in height.

Thanks :)

Play loosehead? Not a very good answer but it might suit you better, especially if you're playing against a bunch of really short dudes.

switching to losehead is unlikely the help since loseheads have to get even lower normaly. Im guessing what one problem may be is that you have tight glutes and hips, google 'glute, hamstringe, and hip flexer streaches' and do them for a few weeks, also remember when you want to get lower you must bend in the knees not the back... but what do i know i'm just a loose head, just out of curiosity how old are you (since you seem to be scrummaging against quite small ppl)

Thanks for the info. Last season I played Tight-head and this season I played loose but im switching back because the other guy can't do it. And I play in the u19s and im 17. I just hate tight head because it kills my neck. Cheers I'll take a look at that on Google :)

I'm 5 11 and 2 years younger play the same position and have no problem getting low so it must be a flexibility problem.

Technique: Get your shoulders square and point your elbow towards the ground with fist close to your shoulder. When you engage grip just behind his socket. Then twist your right shoulder and push. Keep your feet square and push kind of on your toes dip lower keeping your back straight after the intiual hit. If you get a good enough drive only take quick powerful steps. Finally get yourself 21mm studs.

Cheers for that. I'll definately try this on Sunday against, Middlesborough. I do need to buy some new studs also because at the moment I'm wearing typical football boots so that I can use my pace (Being faster than a lot of the backs), but I guess I'll need to buy some bigger, proper studs really, especially playing in the scrum.
