Salvi one of the best 7s never to get a international cap. Shame he was capped by the A squad would have made a handy England 7 ;)

nice vid on Japan there. It's so cool there's a Tier 2 nation that isn't a Pacific Islander (Rugby-wise) that can be exciting like this. Oh and btw, you guys also have the 'nota bene' NB thing ?? didn't know that...

a short piece, with accompanying video, on the Japanese Attack from the June Window:

Solid analysis, I love watching Japan play although some of the examples were more exhibits for terrible defense than Japan's attack being great (try vs. USA, or the USA intercept try, just a poor decision in my opinion more than a product of the system). A key note on the forward runners off 9/10 is that they are running short unders lines, and that the 9 is always a running threat by attacking the 2nd ruck defender. What makes Japan's structure in my mind so unique is that it is one of the best examples of playing a structured game while also playing what's in front of you. 9/10/12 are ultimately responsible for the calls to where the ball is going, whether the ball is just off 9, out the back to 10 to a forward runner, or out the back to 12 to play out wide. When you watch the A5N, Japan play at a ridiculous pace because nobody can really keep up with them, with the exception of Hong Kong who gave them tons of trouble. In order to slow down Japan you need to 1) give Japan problems in the breakdown to slow down the tempo, and 2) get a good line speed to get in their face. I believe that if you're to passive/reactive on them and let them play you're more susceptible to being beat.

Forgot to add in as well, a popular set move the Japanese use to get the ball wide is the 10-12 loop where 12 will sucker the defense to think he's passing to 13 but hits 10 out on the loop.

Not from this season but a good cut of their backline:

Nice video, i really like their passing game it's very entertaining - will be interesting to see how it goes against the mid-table tier 1 nations.

It's a good point about the try examples, the USA intercept try i felt came from their intent to just get it wide no matter what which is why i opted for it, but the Scully try in the first half is a good example of the US defence getting off the line and pressing on their punch groups and then Japan moving slow ball wide letting Wyles take man and ball, counters and intelligently links with Scully.

^ very interesting indeed. Nice and clear and straight to the point. The All-Blacks are really one hell of a well oiled machine, it's through those analysis videos I feel like they're almost literally one, like, one sentient entity split into 15 separate individuals. It's kinda freaky.

look at 1:55 there is a very rare footage ;)

:p he ain't *that* bad...remember the new face French hooker in MF last winter ? I mean Brice Mach is actually a very accomplished hooker who starts for Castres, the team with the best lineout in all of France, but the Bleus really prepared well and worked some magic on that day, dear God almighty...

I appreciate all the efforts GN10, and I do visit this page every time you post smt, but I guess we're sometimes a little lazy to read articles or have to sit down for 7min and focus on an analytical video...I do watch though, just not necessarily on the same day I see the posts.

I know mate, i don't expect everyone to read everything, or watch everything... to be honest i'm just posting the stuff in here to not flood the rest of the forum threads with (relevent) stuff, but i'll probably let the thread die soon so as not to annoy people :)
