Ulster scrum-half Ruan Pienaar has been named as Magners League Players' Player of the Season at the annual Magners League awards dinner in Dublin.

Without Pienaar, Ulster wouldn't have made the playoffs. He took a while to settle in and it was January before he showed signs of good form but he won matches almost single handedly during the 6 Nations and beyond. Was it three last minute winning kicks in four weeks? He deserved the award.

At the time he wrote that, Farrelly was right. Pienaar took a long time to settle in and almost looked disinterested at times. He's been fantastic since the turn of the year though, Bath away being the turning point in his season.

In the name of balance...

Pienaar single handedly won the Glasgow game, more or less, which was very soon after he arrvied, and was playing in a team with 3 different fly-halves in 4 games, and behind a pack that thought ball protection was cupping your hands in front of your meat and two veg. And, when things were going well, he was taking the kicks only because iHumph was out injured and the pack was actually doing its job.

Pienaar's been fantastic, but like every scrum-half, he pretty much lives and dies by what goes on in front of him.

And Farrelly was a tool then and probably is a tool now. And licks windows.
