tuitupou will get his shine...all he has to do is knock some silly forwards around and hes back in the wider frame of things...we have this player clog in the backline as always...

ozzy??...nuci killing the flair??..if that was the case a great start would be for howell 2 wear the ten jersey...i dont think hes killing it..just adding touches of structure...the flair we have will never leave..will be there in patches so would be interesting to see how they do play...im expecting heavy rotation throughout the seaon...sucks coz last year they did it and only found out towards the end of the season that lavea belongs on the edge of the bench holding water for the reserves

now back to bizzo..i like this team we have the clog in the midfield again...with tuitupou/mccalister...tuitevake/toeava/necewa/atiga...im quite happy with mccalistair on the bench...yes he is a devasting player but if you watched his recent allblacks games...he is quite greedy with that ball and his defense aint as consistant as tuitupous....tuitupou will munch up laulala..he has done it in previous blues encounters and thats why he is favoured ahead of him to graham henry...necewa at ten is nice..he can slot any and everywhere in the backline...as a ball playing 10 he will liven up the pace for the blues at set it at the same time..his pasing game is average enough to open up gaps and feed players for tries...who can complain about that???...i have no quams about tuitevake..he is either wing or centre he was a sevens star before becomin an npc one..so he is comfortable there but up against gear???...big challenge...

my only problem is toeava...still only a kid right...i havent seen him play consistantly yet but everyone in nz has seen what he can do when hes on point...taught the whole wellington backline a thing or 2 after there npc clash last year...so we will see him play hopefully in this position throughout the year...i wouldnt mind seeing him at 10 sometime

With the edge in the forwards and home ground advantage, the Blues should still be good enough to sneak a close win over a depleted Crusaders outfit.... maybe ...

But if i was a Blues fan (perish the thought), i would be dissapointed if the backline Nuci picked for the weekend is the one he plans on using throughout the comp.

an interesting team but still a good one. with guys like howlett in the team the flair will defintely still be there. I thought mcAlister would have been starting for sure but I guess not. I think the idea is to bash the crusaders up first score lots of points then bring on the closers like devine and mcAlister. and I think every blues fan is happy when lavea is not in the no 10 jersey

mccalistar will make great impact hopefully...he is not a leader just yet interms of leading the team he is still generally one of the many gems our backline has...necewa will set the pace well...if necewa was eligible free he wouldve made the abs 05 tour..silly fool thinks he can play 1 test match for fiji then a career with the abs..his fault but still the most versitile back in rugby

Paul Honis is a fag. That refereeing was atrocious. Have some damn consistency, if you're going to let forward passes go, let all of them go. Canterbury's tackling was also fu.cking brutal. That was embarrassing.

Not a bad undercard game before the main event.

Couple of highlights to mention...

* Flavell - in the first half it looked like the captaincy had done a world of good for the big man, he was immense!. Pity about the second half though, same old Flavell.

* Tuitavake - couple of lovely little runs setting up two tries.

* Brett - How good was that try he set up? brilliant!. I was a little worried when i saw he wasn't taking the kicks, but he came good in the end with 2 assists,a few breaks and a couple of handy conversions( i have him in both of my fantasy teams you see).

*McAlister - first touch.... try Howlett!, now why the hell wasn't he playing from the get go?... Sammy did sweet F-all.

Apart from those few highlights, it was a pretty dull game, lots of handling errors etc.. but thats to be expected in the first round.

No surprise that the Crusaders struggled without 7 of their AB's, it will take some time for their combinations to click but i definately wont be ruling them out for a semis berth..... not convinced on the Blues chances yet.

huh? dull game? not compared to the shitstorm from the force it wasn't. In fact I thought it was a great game, fast paced and good hands for the most part. Sammy's contribution was underrated he distributed well and straightened when it was needed. He was also solid on defence. Luke the puke stepped in and took advantage of that good ground work and cut the crusaders up, I thought it was wise to chuck him in as a sub. Laulala on the other hand looked a little uncomfortable at 12 and it wasn't till later when he had a little more space that he made a few good runs. Bad call not starting tipoki at 12 and Laulala at 13, he needs the space to shine its why he doesn't perform in the tighter defences at international level.
Nacewa was awesome, this guy reminds me of Mils with the level of consistency he plays with, a rock solid player who nearly always delivers no matter where he plays, pure magic that tackle on Hamilton.
Strangest call was subbing toeava at halftime as he was playing well at centre and Tuitavake was as damaging on the wing as he was in the middle.
As for Flavell looked harsh to me, seemed like a nothing event and the ball was right there too. More his reputation than anything that got him such harsh treatment.

Great game to open 2007 Super 14, some of my highlights:

- Toeava was awesome before he got injured, his game has matured a lot. He broke a tackle everytime he got the ball. Hopefully the injury isn't bad.

- George Pisi was awesome as well, with a bit more experience he will be one of the top full-backs in the biz.

- David Gibson had a very poor game, i thought Flavell was going to strangle him after that kick he made straight into his prop. He was also way slow in clearing the ball a lot of times. I'd rather have Taniela Moa in there over Devine and Gibson.

- I agree with the notion that Honiss is a fag, complete dick head. There was nothing wrong with Flavell's rucking. I guess Honiss got ****** off coz Flavell took his time to get to him when Whitcombe did that choke-slam !!

- Angus Macdonald did not do a thing in this game, i'd rather have Braid, Kaino and Williams in there as the loosies. I thought he was in there as a line-out option but they never used him.

I'm hoping for a different starting 15 next week, hopefully McAlister starting at 12, i'm a big Tui'tupou fan but i think he would be a great impact player. Also a change at half-back with Moa coming in and Williams in for Macdonald.
