Round 4: Chiefs v Reds

its going to be awesome. O'week footy games are the best.
there going to be alot of drunk students at the game thats for sure. the last couple of years ive been one of them but now that i have a 5 month old daughter ive had to tone it down abit.

on the game, for mine queensland have been doing bloody well this year. but they just seem to have a problem with closing games out. i dont know what it is about them. they get into a position to win the game and its really dumb mistakes that cost them. very similar to watching the warriors in league. to be honest i could see QLD winning this game quite easily if they take there chances and dont balls it up.

but having said that we havent seen the chiefs play anywhere near there best. i have no doubts a full strength chiefs squad would destroy the reds. the reds are a young side that is still mostly unproven. then when you pick out the reds best players the chiefs can match if not better them.
Cordingly-Kelleher, Mitchell-Sivivatu, Latham-Mulliaina... etc.

then you have the forward pack. the whole chiefs forward pack has played either for the all blacks or the Maoris. who do the reds have? no one of any note.

it will be close thats for sure but i think the reds will more than likely shoot themselves in the foot if given half a chance.

I would rather have the reds players mentioned

Cordingly-Kelleher- Cordingley has been the best player in the Super 14 so far this year

Mitchell-Sivivatu- very even but Mitchell is better IMO

Latham-Mulliaina- Latham is by far the better player of the 2

...anyway the Chiefs best player is Holah, everyone knows that.

The only comment that's believable in that ^^^ is the comment about Cordingly... where's he been hiding? not to sure about being the best though (Weepu and that little Saffa are playing really well).

The more I think about it the more convident I am about the Chiefs chances in this one. 4 hours to go... getting thirsty already.

should be a great game. I think the chiefs just have too much firepower and class all round for the reds to handle. the reds may hang in there but I think the chiefs should be able to come away with a comfortable victory. and I would say siviviatu and mils are both better than there opposites easily.

Your kidding yourself if you think that reds team > chiefs team on paper.
Maybe not the current injury ravaged line up, but our first XV would be a bit better than the Chief's equivalent. On paper. On the day we'd eat that paper and take two massive dumps on both Lauaki and Kelleher.

1. Greg Holmes
2. Stephen Moore
3. Rodney Blake
4. Mark Connors
5. Hugh McMeniman
6. Mark Chapman
7. David Croft
8. John Roe
9. Sam Cordingley
10. Berrick Barnes
11. Ben Tune
12. Elton Flatley
13. Lloyd Johansson
14. Drew Mitchell
15. Chris Latham

16. Sean Hardman
17. Anthony Mathison
18. Cameron Treloar
19. Tom McVerry
20. Josh Valentine
21. Julian Huxley
22. Steve Kefu

****er, what? [/b]
Tune was awesome at outside center last year. If the Reds have another goal kicker outside of Flatley then I would go for a backline like so:

10. Barnes
11. Some winger
12. Johansson
13. Tune
14. Mitchell
15. Latham

im backing chiefs mainly on there firepower...lauaki,bates and gibbes around the fringes of the ruck against your loosies?...no contest..too powerful altho they have the tendency to knock on and drop reasonable passes but if they get there act together and dominate the rucks..then donald should be able to shine with more space and get his mean backline settled in...

chiefs by 12 +....and kelleher better put on his A-game coz he could be cordinglys next victim..hes awesome az that guy

Yeah, i'm still struggling to see how that would beat the Chiefs top line-up - we have at least finished in the top 5 the last 2 years.

Our backline - minus Five eighth and centre is bordering on the best in the comp.

Don't take it personally Wally but we both have opionions :p

Its a pretty good game so far ........ If the Reds have lost Mcmeniman for the season then there screwed.

Whats up with the crowds in NZ?........ they've been pathetic all year, i thought they were handing out free tickets for this game........ maybe they should start paying ppl to show up.

So it remains.... Two Australian teams cemented at the bottom. Just about makes any South African's weekend already.

Give it a day and the waratahs will ruin your weekend

Chiefs were too good tonight...... how about Luaki ,how awesome was he

The Reds are gonna be a good team in a few years, just look at all there young players..

Mitchell 22
Barnes 19
Ralph 18
Johansson 21
Blake 23
Mcmeniman 23
Chapman 23
Holmes 23
Veratua 23
Moore 23

half there playing squad is 23 and under..... they just need to hold on to them

35-17 Chiefs

Man of the match â€" Mils Muliaina

A slow start from the reds ended up being the decisive factor in a good game. The Chiefs showed that they have a backline that is indeed a class act.
Not only did the backline have a huge game, Sione Lauaki finally got over his laziness and put in a hell of game.
The Reds can take away a good things from the game as well… they currently have the most dynamic half back in Australia.
Secondly Latham showed just why he is the best Australian 15 (amazing kicks to keep the Reds in the game, not to much on the attack tonight but HUGE kicking game) also a good performance from Mitchell (showed a lot of smarts in his try).

Full credit to the Chiefs, opened up the backline (possibly at the expense of Tuitupou who left the field injured) and let it have a run.

The night belonged to Mils and Sione Lauaki, even Sivi put his hand up and played an prominent role.

Good win to the Chiefs

Also in my opinion Mils just put his hand up for contention for the AB’s 13 jersey.

Well i would'nt want him as my fullback ....... so 13 may be good for him.

Although he has Nonu,Smith and maybe Tuitupou in front of him

The Reds were the better team on the night, no one can take that away from them. The Chief's sheer determination to beat a team of our calibre clearly won out in the end, to the disappointment of the fans - who were only just smart enough to realise and congragulate such an awesome displan of rugby when they saw it. Tonight the Reds drastically underestimated their opponents from Bro Town.

 OK.........Mr Anonymous

The reds defense was extremely poor. The Chiefs took them to school.
The Reds really need more ball to give to their backline especially when you have names like Johansson, Latham and Mitchell in it.
Huxley had his best game all season, Johansson couldn't do much just like the rest of the backs.

Forward pack is way too inexperienced mate. It doesn't help when you lose two of them per game on average either. Hopefully we'll have both Connors and Cockbain back next week to help with that.

Henari Veratau must be the worst winger in the competition. We give the Brumbies Heenan and all we get in return is that blind gold fish. Thanks a lot Canberra.

Yes you can take that away from them Wally, mainly due to them losing

You can always trust in the Reds to give you a good signing. :)
I don't know why you guys picked up Veratau, he wasn't great at the Brumbies hence them letting him go. The Tahs seem to pick up the good signings from us. Harrison, Vickerman, Norton Knight.

As much as i have already sold my soul to the Crusaders....this weekend I will be hoping the Chiefs show some consistency for 80 mins and tough it out against McCaw and Co. I also hope that Mils, Crichton, Sivi, and Soseni make Carter realise that he needs to put it out on the full.

Good game for the Chiefs against the Reds....though in fairness the Reds did play below their usual par......the earlier heartbreaking defeats may have taken a bit of their faith away. Pity as they have a lot of potential when they get it right.

Was John Eales their captain when they won the S10?

i told u guys...chiefs loosies were always gonna pummel the ground work of the game...reds needed 2 specialist opensides working against that loose trio and jonno...it wudve balenced the game out abit more

chiefs backline is gettin more fluid...but consistantcy is of great need for them to last the long haul..

mills is looking real good at centre
