Rocky Elsom: "the most influential player in the game today."

I am shocked that Loggo is now part of the British hype machine.

Elsom good. Spies good. Was McCaw even playing against the Bulls? Didn't notice him.

McCaw hasnt played well in the few matches he's played this year, he was outplayed by young Potgieter. So at the moment Elsom is more influential then McCaw, in the world though i doubt it.

I think half of you guys are missing the point. The point is INFLUENTIAL. I am not saying McCaw is a better player than Elsom, because at the moment, he is not. Not by a long shot. I'm talking about presence on the field. The mindset the other opponents have in regards to that one player. Sure, Elsom has done an incredible job, he played his heart out, and led a team to a competition triumph.

But, if he loses his form, will anyone still have high regard for him? If McCaw and Elsom are in a World XV, who do you think the opponents will have their eye on the most? Elsom? I doubt it. McCaw has that 'presence' that no one else has. Therefor, the way i see it:

- The best loose forward in world rugby at the moment: Pierre Spies

- The most 'Influential player in world rugby: Richie McCaw

- The most influential and best player if you are looking for the complete package AT THE MOMENT: Rocky Elsom

As for which one of those 3 you think is the complete package at the moment? I think Elsom pretty much takes the cake if you weigh up everything he has done, as well as current form.

So there. M'kay.

Rocky Elsom is good but his success has been somewhat misleading due to the fact he was playing in a vastly inferior competition this season.

There you go, that wasnt too hard now was it ;)

Looks like he's heading home again now so you'll get to see him up close and personal soon enough.

Yeah. Too bad he has to match up against Ryan Kankowski and Pierre Spies when he gets here... good luck to him!

He hasn't proved himself by playing in the premier domestic competition and the premier international tournament S14 and 3N respectively. His form doesn't surprise me, he has done this for New South Wales and Australia for years, now people are noticing are influential he really is.

If he doesn't go to Queensland next year I will cry.

But the thing is.. a lot of southern hemisphere players who go to play up north, suddenly stand out and is the mantis. Even mediocre players we thought.

Yet the *amazing* players when their down south *coughDanCartercough* come north and look utter shite...

Go figure!

Thought so... Oh well. Up for a beer anyone? I'm over today...

Still, Elsom was good...

I barely noticed Rocky Elsom when he played for Australia, but then I spend little time looking at anyone who isn't front row, or backs.

I remember him being a star player at the world cup for Aussie...
Or I remember the commentators calling him a star player...
Either way, it's not as if his ability has just suddenly appeared at Leinster...

Seconded. I always rated him. But as a loose forward as a whole, i can't compare him to Spies or Kanko. But yeah, i have always rated the guy.

Wait....list them?

Luke McAllister never really set my world on fire. He was good but hasn't been anywhere near Rocky Elsom good.
Dougie Howlett has been great for Munster but I don't think anyone's being ******** themselves.
Jerry Collins...eh no.
We had Nick Williams in Munster since Christmas and he was utter cack in my oppinion.
Carlos Spencer please god take the cocky loser back.
Chris Jack has been very good. But no better than he ever seemed in SH rugby.

Brock James (focking awesome) and Paul Warwick are examples of players who's been fantastic in the NH in the last couple of seasons. Though in fairness I get the impression with Paul that's because he was just arseing around in Australia rather than concentrating on rugby. Nick Evans has been excellent too but was he not rated highly in the SH aswell?

CJ van der Linde was good for Leinster but in his absence no huge change was noticed when Cian Healy walked in.

I just want to see a list of your playes that you'd consider mediocre that 'stood out' in Europe.

What about a certain Joe van Niekerk? :bulb:

And I also remember a certain ex-Shark, Trevor Halstead, revolutionizing your Munster mid-field into the force it is today
