Highlanders fly-half Robbie Robinson will face an internal disciplinary hearing after being thrown in jail early on Sunday morning.
The Southland star, 21, was pepper-sprayed by police, arrested and held in a police cell after the incident in Dunedin. He was released later and was not charged.
Highlanders general manager Roger Clark explained that Robinson was walking home when he got into a fight. He added that Clark the franchise were disappointed with the incident and action would be taken.
"We set high standards right across the organisation and this sort of behaviour is not acceptable," Clark told the Otago Daily Times.
"These kids are in a privileged position and have to act responsibly no matter what happens."
Robinson had come off the bench to feature in the Highlanders' 44-13 defeat to the Crusaders on Saturday at Carisbrook.
