Richie Gray joins Sale (next season)

Not really, in front of Tonetti for centre there is:

Sam Tuitupou
Johnny Leota
Luther Burrell
Will Addison
Andrew Higgins
Jordan Davies

and then covering on the pitch/from the bench is Tasea Lavea and Nick MacLeod
He wasn't even starting the 'A' league games

I really rate Tonetti, but Hanks/Diamond don't seem to, and signed a bus load of centres over the summer so it makes sense for him to move elsewhere in search of game time

According to the Rugby Paper Toulouse are trying to sign Richie Gray and get him to pull out of the Sale move

strange if true as ...

1. Toulouse have four international locks in Patricio Albacete, Yoann Maestri, Romain Millo-Chluski, Grégory Lamboley none of whom are likely to be leaving they have more than enough quality at locks

2. His move to Sale was already announced, and he talked about how it wasn't about money but how he liked Sale's ambitions or something along those lines

3. Sale look in good shape and seem a far more stable and happy club than they have been in recent years, and with Cipriani in advanced talks they should have a strong first choice team next year (provided right selections are made at the scrum)

the French media have picked up this Rugby Paper article, which while of course I don't have an inside track on these things and could be wrong, but logically this story just seems plain WRONG

We can but hope that his presence down south will lead to more Sky/ BBC coverage, which will in turn help us more than him being ignored by the media in our own Borders.

the BBC and Sky love Gray, he's one of the least ignored players with his big floppy hair, Andy Nicol gives him man of the match nearly every time Scotland win

by the way how many modern day gym monkey rugby players can do this?

According to....Neil Fissler.
Steve Diamond said, and I quote: "total ******** he has signed a contract".
Just the Rugby Paper trying to get more people to buy their rag.

All fair that when rugby is covered that he gets mentioned, but with the sports sections of papers in Scotland being 95% about the Old Farm (with the rest being hate agains the non-OF clubs and Scotland) the common man/ women/ child doesn't get exposure to Scottish rugby or it's new poster boy.

The ***-for-tat kak of the BBC and Sky doing their best to avoid reporting or covering other events that they don't show themselves means that Sky doesn't show or acknowledge that the Pro 12 exists. With there being so many Sky and ESPN customers in Scotland with little interest in rugby, a young, 'blonde' giant of a man doing well in the Premiership who is Scottish may garner interest. Certainly would do any harm, it's not the existing rugby followers we need be concerned about, the sellout against France shows there is a lot more people who feel a buzz happening in Scottish rugby at the moment, and now I am just going in circles and have said all I can on the matter.

End of the day, this is lookin more and more an opportunity for Scottish rugby to gain exposure, and on a similar note the Edinburgh/ Toulouse game has already sold 27 000+ tickets as of yesterday, with sales having dipped to 200 a day since last Friday.

who is Neil Fisser?

the srupidness of this reminded me of the annual Jamie Roberts to France story, people seemingly forgetting that he needs to be based in Cardiff to do complete his degree

Transfer/rumour guy in the rugby paper. Known for making up rumours or taking even the vaguest of speculation from fan forums and selling it as a "done deal".

catchphrase?

Toulouse have just released an official statement saying that this is rubbish as well

http://www.stadetoulousain.fr/Entretien_le_President_Bouscatel-49-3563.html

translated extract:

We have never had contact with the player, there is no bid from us, he has signed for Sale and he is not in discussion with Toulouse directly or indirectly

p
retty poor rumour that, clearly made up, to link a player who is in contact with a team but in the end doesn't sign for them is one thing, but to link a player who has never made contact is just unprofessional

I looked up Neil Fissler on Google and found he is getting stick from Sale fans for his Richie Gray story

at the suggestion he made it all up, he said "Do not even suggest I've made anything up"

I love how on his twitter he "breaks" news a hour or so after it's already all over twitter.
When someone asked him if he made up a story before he said "Be careful, there are libel laws"

Love it when Fissler is quoted. I've seen better defunct flour mills turn out better rumours.

Well Toulouse were looking at bringing in Alun-Wyn Jones not so long ago to replace Albacete. So i can see the logic in trying to buy Gray.
