IRB / "World Rugby" just announced the qualifying process for the Haka World Cup - sorry Rugby World Cup.

What a laughing stock. Let's punish Asia for Japan doing well by taking them a second starting spot.
Plus Europe being "punished" as well.

In my personal opinion, this is utter rubbish.

From Europe, Romania or Russia.

Perhaps Spain. There will soon be playing some French.

One team ...

Asia/Oceania Play Off for Repechage Place should be combined with the Europe/Oceania play-off Qualifier. Have a round robin tournament and the winner goes through and the next two behind go to the Repechage. This would give the Asia qualifier more of a chance of getting in and actually reaping the benefits of Japan doing well. I.e. exposure against a quality team like Samoa or Tonga.

I think the 2nd Europe team (which in the past would have been the third team cause of Georgia) actually gets the real benefit here. They'll get an extra direct opportunity to make the tournament against a team like Samoa or Tonga - an opportunity they wouldn't have been afforded before. So even if they lose they get a second chance to qualify.

Also hope they delay the draw until all teams are qualified. That way the 4th and 5th tier of the pools won't just be random guesses according to the continents.

Disappointment :(
I suppose there should be one more slot for Asian team in the World Cup in Japan which got automatic qualification.
How can popularity of rugby be raised in Asia with no presence of Hong Kong or South Korean team?
Slim chance for them to go through the "qualifiers".

Sorry, but what the hell are you talking about?

Asia have TWO spots (one direct, one via playoff) - Japan has already qualified, so there is one spot (the playoff) left. No difference from last RWC or the one before that.

As soon as you ADD an extra direct spot for a region, you must take away a direct spot from another region. Do you really believe that Asia should get an extra direct spot at RWC 2019 on the coat-tails of Japan qualifying automatically? If so, which region should lose its spot. Which of these teams that played in the RWC 2015 would you deny qualification to in favour of a direct entry for Hong Kong or Singapore

USA
Canada
Fiji
Tonga
Samoa
Namibia
Romania
Uruguay

No again, and for the same reasons but substitute Georgia for Japan
