RD Pro12: Ulster - Cardiff Blues (16-09-2011, 19:05)

Brilliant performance. Missing players didn't effect us at all. Though low key, Jarred Payne debut was solid.

Thought the House of Payne was very good myself, clearly a class act and very excited about what he's got to offer. Don't think Mincer and Danielli will be getting back in the team when they get back - cannot see how or why you'd drop Gilroy, Spence and Mincer will be a little closer but Spence is in fine, fine form indeed. Hands just get better and better.

Only slight worry really is the scrum and maybe the killer instinct. Having Court and Afoa (and Fitz fully fit) will boost the scrum nicely enough, the killer instinct will come in time...

Pretty much the only positive for the Blues, was impressed with how well Hobbs and Andrews did, good to see them both starting to establish themselves more in the team. Not bad for the strength in depth with both Jenkins and Filise to come back from the World Cup and wherever Yapp is atm (guessing he's injured)

Aye Cardiff deffo had us under pressure there. I'm not too worried - Declan Fitzpatrick was playing loosehead first game back from injury, normally plays tighthead, clearly not our ideal circumstances, plus they did just about get their ball back...

Czekaj looked quite assured too. But thats about it.

Nah, don't think so. Couple of good darts out when he could, generally did a good job with Ulster's tactical kicking.

It was in general a pretty thorough bullying from start to finish. In fairness to Cardiff, this has the makings of a very, very good Ulster side, with quite a few players in top form who are missed the cut this time but are likely to spend a lot of time in green in the near future. Cardiff have been left with very raw youngsters and an old looking pack, as long as they keep in touch until they get the WC players back and keep pushing the youngsters forwards, they've got a strong future. After all - look where pushing the youngsters has got Ulster...
