RaboDirect Pro12

Along with a lot of other teams - Doubt they'd be allowed into the Magners with grounds as small as theirs either

Don't think there is a limit on the Magners is there? Connaught are playing on a Greyhound track :p But I cant see the pirates or Welsh hacking it in the Magners either for the time being anyway.

I am assuming that the reason Airioni and Treviso were not taken into the T14 is because the T14 has wait for it ..14 teams :p the 2 extra teams under the current format would make an already very long season 4 weeks longer.

Would make more sense then the Italians. At least both sides have Celtic connections rather then Latin.

Pro12 will do. it's just a name, and what is important is that the sponsors provide the money which enables us to get this show on the road. I would go a lot further with advertising in Rugby, although I would of course stop short of the constant cutting away for adverts every 2 minutes that we see in the NFL.

On balance though, i would prefer to have a commentator read out a 10 second advertisement twice per hour, instead of seeing things like 'bet365' printed on the players' shirt, and i'd sooner cut away for a 3 minute ad break on the 20 & 60 minute marks than have a big RBS logo painted on the pitch, with blue paint coming off onto the players.

So, my attitude towards the tournament sponsor is that i don't really care what the competition is called, so long as they stump up the cash. rumour is that they are paying more than Magners were, so thats a good thing.

Think you'd be alone on that one,
Can't stand the advertising in American sports,
Watching UFC the otherday "and tonights cornercam is brought to you by *some website* the best way to rent games for your ps3 xbox 360 and nintendo wii" - was doing my head in

I agree, actually I think the sponsors painted on the pitch look good

Id expect it in American Sports, most Sports are sponsored internally. Fight cam, spy cam etc are all sponsored and a way of generating money. However Rugby is unique and its not a game where you could do an advert of a minuet long during gameplay.

I think we're going to see it more and more as TV tries to squeeze money out of the sport. Injury breaks generally take a minute- there's an opportunity there for an ad. The break between a kick at goal and a restart is often 30 seconds- another chance to generate some money from a commercial break. I don't want to see it happen but think it will eventually.

Hopefully the lack of any adverts on BBC will prevent that sort of thing from happening. I've watched recorings of matches from Aus before and they try to squeeze in adverts here and there during the game, which ultimately leads to the viewer missing something every now and again. I think there'd be too many complaints here in Britain. That's what I hope anyway....

Injury breaks ... 'Durex always stay protective' ...

Or on a concussion injury ... 'This injury break is sponsored by (Paracetamol Brand) to cure those painful headaches'

Don't worry, I know! I'm heavily pro advertising, mainly because Rugby players don't earn much.

Most of these players will be suffering from serious physical problems in their 40s. I'm happy for the TMO to become 'Tesco TMO', if it means more money for the players. After all, every little helps :)

Players are paid by the clubs though, and they're the ones putting the sponsors on the shirts - I think the TV advertising would just go to the TV companies and to the RFU/Aviva/PRL/whatever

How much money TV companies can make from the event decides how much they will pay to televise and promote it.

Did you hear Burger King are sponsoring SOB's shorts next year?
Home of the Whopper.

The 'Pro 12' is actually growing on me, despite my previous comment saying it sounds like a vitamin supplement. But already I can't wait to see the back of the RaboDirect name, i'd prefer the Spam League tbh.

Wonder what the new cup will look like?
