Queen Elizabeth II

I'd remove them completely and use the crown jewels as a symbolic head of state for opening of parliament and have the opening read by the PM. Similar to a state of the union address in the USA.

Nobody actually need to see a King/Queen to be appointed PM. Its all ritual with zero actual power so who's these people are doesn't actually matter.

None of this will actually happen and we need baby steps like removing hangers on beyond 5 steps and decedents of the 5th (so we'd go to Harry and his kids).
Don't get me wrong I would also get rid of them completely. But I am realist that that is not going to happen, so next best thing.

you would think that after seeing how himself and camilla were treated, Charles would treat harry a little better. Not letting him wear the military uniform despite the fact he served for 10 years and making him look like Prince Andrew is an odd look.

Isn't that a military thing rather than a royals thing?
Obv KC3 is the theoretical leader of the armed forces so could OK it, but Harry gave up all his honorary military ***les so gave up the right to wear the uniform.
All the geriatrics, as weird as it is, are all (on paper) still part of the military

He and (ironically) Andrew are the only ones who really deserve to wear any it anyway,
Ann and Charles all decked out in 50 odd medals compared to Harry who actually did several tours

KC3 🤣 sounds like an Olympic combo Kayak Canoe slalom event.

Yeah Harry is technically no longer serving member of the military after he resigned his commission 7 years ago. When he stepped back from royal duties he also gave up all his honorary commissions.

The reality is the other royals shouldn't wearing anything and we shouldn't be giving out '**** all medals' at all, three of Harry's are jubilee medals. The only one earned is his Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan just like Andrew's South Atlantic Medal, with Rosette.

learn something new every day, i thought former members of the military could keep wearing their uniforms (unless maybe they were actually kicked out)...probably based on how often we see royals wearing uniforms when their not serving

Good to see British people practicing their favourite pass time. 🤔

And just in case you didn't want to queue up for up to 30 hours then BBC news has a live stream so you can watch people as they queue to file past the QE2.

It's wild the amount of stuff shutting down just for one old woman. Can't go watch a film, Center Parcs were initially chucking people out and telling them to come back on Tuesday, non emergency surgeries cancelled, GP surgery's closed, sport cancelled, comedy, entertainment etc etc.

I know people love the queen and what not but there are a hell of a lot of people on this island that don't give 2 fucks about her and want to go about their business. If you want to line the streets and have a cry **** (mourn hub) then fine but don't force this misery on me for someone I couldn't care less about.

I thought that stuff would be on Bank Holiday hours but I got an email from Tesco last night saying they're shutting up shop for the day (but with some Express stores re-opening at 5pm)

Maccies is shutting for the day, they've gone too far

Are you sure this is true? I thought the same, but the media has repeatedly told me that the whole nation is in mourning and that we're all really upset!

Joking aside, I can see all the disruption this is causing creating anti-royal sentiment in apathetic people.

That's a good point about creating anti royal sentiment where there was none before. I hope that's true and that King Charles' general unpopularity will be the beginning of the end of all this nonsense but I won't hold my breath.

The other thing that annoys me is even the majority of people travelling to London to "pay their respects" aren't really mourning, not properly anyway. They say they're mourning but they're not, imo.

I'm sure "The Firm" are as you'd expect and condolences to them but these people saying they're mourning I just don't buy it. People love tradition, ****, I would even guess the majority of people heading up to London now are just in it to see the show, it's a pretty historic occasion after all and we do love a bit pomp and ceremony.

There's nothing wrong with any of that but just be honest to yourself and to others. You're not losing any sleep over the queen dying as most people would when they've lost a loved one.

Yeah its not helped at all the apathetic/soft republican people were very much of opinion okay its not going to be a fun 2 weeks but lets just keep our mouths shut.

No counter programming on the entire BBC
Suspension of parliament during cost of living crisis.
Then they started arresting protestors (yes they were in the wrong but they should be allowed to do it).
Staff being made redundant.
Bank holiday closures having far greater impact than a normal bank holiday with short notice.

Add in side stuff like Markle getting **** hosed for no reason, the return of Prince Nonce, Center Parcs loosing the plot.

Its all a bit frustrating.

That's what it's done to me,
I never liked the monarchy but was ok enough with the status quo

The past week has turned me actively anti-monarchy

and they took Sale off of PRTV Live!

Leeds have had two games postponed due to this. Bristol and Northampton are the teams I've decided to follow this year and I couldn't watch them last week. If you aren't going to mourn the loss of the queen you are going to mourn the loss of your sport.

British cycling originally told people not to cycle on the day of the queen's funeral but quickly backtracked after people complained.

The final straw for me was when her intransigence meant Liz Truss being dragged to Scotland and back at the tax payer's expense when she could have spent that time doing the job she'd just been appointed to.

Also, I'd add the fact that the funeral has led to NHS cancellations to the list of black marks against the whole thing.

Also now cancelling flights during the funeral. I can't believe they make that much noise and so many people have already been inconvenienced by cancellations over the summer. Flights usually coincide with other bookings and cost people.

And I thought it was because the British just love to queue.
Yep we love a queue, nearly as much as I love to tell new yorkers to f#@k off and wait their turn.
Even some yanks seem scared of
NY residents for some inexplicable reason.
Rude people are rude the world over.I
