Puppy training thread.

So the little guy had his second set of jabs last Friday and we've just got back from his first walk! Big moment and over proud human parents.

He's settled in brilliantly, and has just been doing normal puppy things with all the chaos that brings. Just over 12 weeks now and he's already sitting to command - stuff like paw and down are coming on well too. Doing a bit of recall work in the garden with mixed results - digging is far more interesting. House training is - let's just say improving…..walks should hopefully largely take care of that.

3 of the cats like or tolerate him but number 4 - a streetwise ginger - is a harder nut to crack.

Looking like he might be a front rower - over 11kg before he'd reached 12 weeks. We thought we might be in for something maybe just over 30kg, but the vet reckons it may be more like 40. That's fine by us.

Now he can get out and about the hard work begins. Puppy socialisation starts tomorrow and training classes are booked with what seems to a pretty reputable trainer.

The scars on my hands will probably heal at some point.

Good everything is looking fine.
My new know 9 months ,yet again another collie this time a red and white.
Trained up really well ,just heal off lead to get grasp of.
Brilliant at off lead emergency stop.
For me most important training thing as had another collie who went off a small cliff lesson learned after a broken leg bill.
Hopefully agility training in a few months and doing the 5k mucky dog for Battersea in May in Derby not sure a 60+ I should be doing a wet 5k obstacle course
Enjoy the pup.

I also have a Border Collie, he really is my best mate. Lil f@#ker is 3 today.

One lesson I learnt was never leave a car window down even a tad when driving. I was driving one day with my previous BC and cracked the window down. Not by much maybe enough for nose and top of head. Yes the fecker jumped out at about 10-15 mph. Even to this day I'll never really know why. It was only because I looked in the mirror and saw him rolling down the road that I noticed. Thank god no cars were behind me.

He had a really mangled back leg that needed pins. Crated for three months and not allowed to move around much. Yep that's easy with a BC.

I was so upset I just sobbed at the vets I was crying so badly I could not speak and the Mrs had to do all the talking. Even thinking about it now makes me sad and feel a s@it dog owner. He went onto live a long and happy life still............and birthday boy that i have here now is doing well. Just no car windows for him.

I wish my neighbour had taken his German Shepherd to one. I was talking to him after Xmas asking him how his was and couldn't hear him and so turned and lifted my body bobble hat to hear him better. That set his GS off and he went absolutely mad barking aggressively at me. I had to leave my neighbour trying to control his dog with two hands on his lead. I think the GS is 7. Is it too late for him? He's big dog and looks like this

But then saw him the other week and he was as good as gold and even sat down patiently whilst I talked to my neighbour about England 6Ns. He's just a bit unpredictable. Basically depends what mood he's in. Even worse now with arthritis in one of his paws.
