PS3

That may be problem.

Just read something about the ntsc-j version with built in PS2 chip for maximum compatibility in the PS3 that the Japanese version has, does that mean it can play all old PS2 games?

I'm gradually coming to terms with this, thanks for the all your help people,

NTSC J - Japanese version, all PS3 games region free so will play any, complete backward compatibility on all Japanese games.

NTSC - US/Canada version, all PS3 games region free so will play any, complete backward compatibility on all US/Canada games???

PAL - EU version, all PS3 games region free so will play any, limited backward compatibility.

So the backward compatibility only works regionally, e.g. US version PS3 will only play old PS2 US games?

It hasn't sold very well in Australia at all when you consider how many were predicted to sell. I think it's the same story in America, and I know for a fact it's getting *****ed in Japan by Nintendo. It won't be too long before Sony will be forced to lower prices.
