Potential Basque MERGER!!

Well said ZeFrenchy.....the last talks centred around a site at Bassausary but Anglet is the logical home as it is the only thing that seperates Biarritz from Bayonne!

Good news from Bayonne to show that is serious.........

Alain Afflelou, the financial backer of Bayonne, has announced that in the case of the failure of the merger talks, he will walk away.

"If the project fails, I will leave the club and other partners would do the same in the two clubs.

We cannot continue to fund a club that fights not to go down and with hopes constantly disappointed.

Clubs with smaller budget sometimes do better, but it is not going to work as money is the sinew of war. "

Lorenzetti (Racing boss) says that he has introduced Berbiziers to Bayonne and that he has been appointed as the overall manager of the Sky Blues..............does that mean he will be in charge of the merged clubs?

So was confirmed in press and (third hand from the top) over the weekend that Afllelou and Serge Kampff, of Cap Gemiini, (the main sponsors of each team) will walk away if the merger does not go ahead......

Also the Kuwaiti investor, that Blanco turned down in the summer, is back and turns out that they are bidding against Canal + for the TV rights for French domestic rugby.........if you are not in Kassietown maybe you are in Kuwait and can thorw some light on this angle BE?!!!!

Wasn't that Qataries? Couldn't this all be a plot by Bog Yoewis 91 to take control of the Basque Country?

hehe, although who the hell wants control over the Basque Country, I ask ?!
And please, it's Big Ewis, and Kazakhstan is greatest country is the world.

And no idea about the Kuwaiti thing. I'm utterly disinterested with all things economical and financial. I'm just a fan of the sport, not the plotting behind it with suits and ties.

But as a general rule, Gulf authorities have understood the importance of Western sports and their weight. The Dubai Sevens, very good idea. They've been investing a whole, whole, whole lot in Western sports lately...
And I can attest to specifically the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait's quasi-immeasurable wealth. You have no idea how rich they are, guys.

The Basques, BE, the Basques!!

haha, yeah but besides those politically limited, conditioned-minded maniacs ?!!
For the anecdote, I had a friend (girl) in my class in the French School here whose dad was Qatari and mom was Basque ! She's very good-looking now, looks exotic and speaks French with a southern accent :p

The guys in the beret's will be coming after you..............politcally limited and condition minded maniacs or overrun and dominated most historical nation in Europe.....and also for chasing their women who are, I would admit, some of the most beautiful girls (or some of the most ugly and little in between!!) outside of Ireland!!!

Ireland ?! :p
yeah I've been 3 times...I see where you could be coming from, but...mmm...

And yes yes, of course, poor Basque people, victims of this cruel world.

Well that went well......talks all over and merger OFF!!!

From Rugby-Transferts............!

Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bayonne, Alain Afflelou , has decided to end the discussion. This is what he said in a statement posted on the website of his club.

"conditions mentioned in our first exchanges are no longer together, I can not agree to enter our club, healthy legally economically and fiscally in a blind direction. After consultation with major shareholders, members of the Supervisory Board and representatives of the fans, the conditions envisaged are not met, I have decided to end these discussions"

All I can say is we are doomed, I say, dooooommmmmeeedddd!!!

Afflelou is saying that the financial positon of Biarritz is not what he thought it was when he entered into the negotiations...........what planet is he on?

I knew that they had severe financila problems and I have eff all to do with it....

1. they had to be bailed out by the Municipality before the season started or they would have been in breach of the financial requirements of the LNR
2. they have not been able to afford any medical jokers for the severe injury list that they have suffered.

If this does not give you a little hint, Alain, then I must wonder how you managed to build up such a chain of Opticians that you have been forced into tax exile in Belgium!!!!
