With 30% of the public vote.

Second was Billy Vunipola with 27% and third George North with 11%

To be honest, was really surprised Hogg won it.

But well done to him, really good player.

I imagine flair players like Hogg who entertain and produce moments of magic will attract more votes than the workhorses who are often the unsung heroes

Don't get it, he did as many ****ing terrible things as he did good things.

Remember it's a public vote which is going to be more entertainment based.

Its because he can dive like a footballer more of the public can relate to him, surprised Jonny Sexton didnt do better...

Faletau wasn't a nomination, didn't bother voting when I saw that.

Looks like the Scottish public can vote better than the English.

The English had 3 people to choose from but Hogg had support elsewhere. ALL Scottish regions voted for Hogg but English, Welsh and Irish regions were more mixed in their voting. Basically it is just like the election, Scots voting in one block.

Didn't deserve it. The English second rowers should have shared it.

Hogg did score a sensational solo try against Ireland.
He is a flair player and they tend to get noticed more.
I'm surprised Joseph didn't get more votes, he is a also a flair player and he shone in the 6 Nations in a backline that wasn't always the most fluid.

The nominations were rather ridiculous, but they always are tbh. Faletau easily should have been nominated, can't really understand what Gareth Davies did to deserve nomination over him.

Itoje or Vunipola should have won in my opinion, but Hogg did grow as the tournament went on. Congrats to him.

As much as I love Hogg as a counter attacking back, and he showed great vision in scoring that try, I do kind of feel it has been overhyped. If you watch it back he notices a fairly large gap between two front row forwards, Ross and Best, and exploits this gap with a slight dummy. Ross is slow to man-mark and keep up with him and I just feel Best (with all his experience) should have stepped back inside a little and nailed him, but he drifts and waits to tackle the dummy runner, but obviously the pass never comes. From that point on it's a straight forward sprint to the line as none of the other Irish defenders are anywhere near him. Earls makes a desperate attempt but has to run so far in from his wing that it's too late.

A nice dummy, but it was against two slow front row forwards and through a pretty big gap. I think quite a few other fast players would have noticed this and nailed the chance too.

This is what happens when you trust the public to decide something.

Next year the prize will go to Boaty McBoatface.

You have to give it to Hogg's exceptional running in a straight line though.

I think Zebo's oversight of having to get back into position after the ruck before the box kick was the really extraordinary aspect of that try! It was about as impressive as his intercept agains Italy a few years ago, he needed the athleticism and wherewithal to score it but there's dozens of other players who could do the same thing.

Unfortunately we're so restricted to open running in international rugby that a very basic, albeit nice on the eyes, piece of play is the second best try scored in the championship.

Well deserved and a display of real class ! Great to see such exciting flair !

Some sad people just can't get over that dive at the WC which no-one at the time defended.

To be fair it wasn't just that fantastic solo try against the Irish. He won because he was arguably the most entertaining player of the tournament which is probably what attracted votes from a public looking for some entertainment and class. A sublime offload to Seymour against Italy and that overhead flick to Visser against France. He also scored a great try against France.

Scotland's population is 5.2 million and so I doubt his win was just down to the Scottish vote when the UK population is 64 million and Ireland 4.6 million.

England had some heroic performers and thoroughly deserved to win the tournament but congrats to Hogg for winning this award.

Understandable it's gone to a back based on public vote. But Kruis, Vunipola and Faletau are more deserving imo.

Correct. Hogg has made mistakes too but then again he has to carry some very average internationals

True. He really does know how to make the most of that particular angle of attack. Just the skill involved in putting one foot before the other, pushing down and back on the ground and then repeating with the other foot until sufficient momentum is gained to reach the try line, well... Hogg is truly a trend-setter, a game-changer, if you will. I get the feeling a lot of other players in the game will now be trying to copy this particular move. We might see more and more players trying to run in straight lines with pace.

I just wish this guy had invented that move before Hogg got there, he could have used it:
