Cardiff Blues coach Phil Davies, on the back of an awful loss to Exeter, not content with that performance alone making him look rubbish at his job has made himself look a fool in the post match interview as well. Lecturing the interviewer on calling Exeter a "mid table side" telling him to "do your research" when Exeter were 6th from 12 last season and 6th from 12 this season. Embarrassing for Davies.

God I hate Phil Davies. I very much dislike him deflecting blame onto his players, even if it does hold some truth. Be a man and hold your hand up and admit that as the head coach the buck stops with you etc. Let the players themselves talk about blame on their shoulders.

Ultimately it's his responsibility to get the team playing as a cohesive unit, and the Blues look like anything but, especially in defence. The defensive coach they have in place is obviously not up to the job, and as Phil Davies was there when he was appointed, he shoulders the blame for appointing someone with no experience in rugby union.

If it were my decision, I'd get rid of all the coaches at the Blues and start again from scratch. If Shaun Edwards is available as a defensive coach, then jump at the opportunity. There have also been rumours of Iestyn Harries as attack coach, which could work well. As for head coach, just someone with a proven record (unlike Phil Davies). If a big name isn't available, then I'd be tempted by Dale Mcintosh as he would bring a no-nonsense approach.

Honestly, I'm getting sick and tired of talking about the desperately poor quality of coaching at the Welsh regions. One win doesn't change my mind about the inexperienced bunch at the Scarlets. I am still undecided about the coaches at the Ospreys, but after the last two weeks I am asking serious questions. The Dragons have the best bunch atm.

Lyn Jones was utterly **** at the Ospreys. See comparable performances from a largely Ospreys Wales Grand Slam to come back and play like clowns losing to Saracens. From his record, it would suggest strongly that he is better working with smaller lower league sides than promotion to any bigger outfit.

Quite possibly. Or maybe he's improved as a coach, or maybe things just got a little stale at the O's by the end. Either way, he and Kingsley have transformed the Dragons from a side that were getting humiliated on a regular basis to one which is organised and competitive.

He wasn't right for the team. His attacking methods were dreadful, the Ospreys should have sacked him earlier. They wasted 3 seasons of a good side with Lyn Jones and Holley, and then with Scott Johnson got robbed in Biarritz. Then a season later and the side is gone with budget cutbacks.

I think he suits a smaller lower league team's culture better. It's very different managing a side with no internationals compared to one with a whole team's worth of them. It's still early days at the Dragons as well, they couldn't exactly get any worse than Glasgow last Spring, that was the nadir of 10 years of failure.

I was very critical of Lyn during his final years at the Ospreys as well, but I have begun to change my mind somewhat about him. I think one of his failings was in appointing Holley as attack coach. With someone more experienced, and more daring, the Ospreys may have flourished under Lyn. He's an excellent man manager, as exemplified with Henson, and he's great at spotting talent and bringing them through.

I don't necessarily think that he's incapable of managing a top side full of stars, if he get's the right people to support him.

What's your opinion on Humphreys now that he's left the Ospreys? The Ospreys forwards haven't quite clicked without him there. I'm unsure if I and others unfairly bundled him together with Holley as a poor coach when they were in charge.

If Eddie O'Sullivan was still in any way inclinded towards rugby coaching I reckon he could do a job at the Blues...

If he was such an excellent man manager then why did a team of Grand Slam winners and All Blacks play like crap in the Heineken Cup? I don't think Henson was properly utilised at some points under Lyn as well. He was renowned for being an unpredictable and inconsistent selector as well which backfired on him as well with some really dumb one off decisions like leaving Marshall on the bench for a big game against Gloucester which cost the team a home tie. These errors lie solely on his back. Holley's season was bad as well, he was much better as a defence coach under Scott Johnson. Although Johnson has a lot of people hating on him, I do feel that he was the most effective coach in attack. The Leinster match this weekend was like a revisit to the typical European performance under Lyn and Holley, although the they had a much better team doing it.

I would be vehemently against Lyn Jones getting a shot at the Wales job, and I don't think he would work too well at any of the other regions either. He's a small team coach. He didn't just fail over one year at the Ospreys, he failed over 5 with the 6th a leftover of his regime.

Regarding Humphreys, I think that the loss of Paul James has hurt the pack more than expected.

If Eddie O'Sullivan was still in any way inclinded towards rugby coaching I reckon he could do a job at the Blues...

The fact he would have to work with Gatland who he fell out with in Ireland would nip that move in the bud.

Lyn gets a good amount out of a limited squad. He made LW somewhat competitive and seems to be doing the same in Newport. I wouldn't want him near the national side.

Funnily enough, I'd love to see Lyn Jones/Kingsley Jones pairing in the Welsh set up once Gatland leaves. I really reckon they could do a job for us! Even just as back room staff behind Howley, I guess I just like the way they coach, and have loved the results so far!
