After four years in France, Azzurri prop Salvatore Perugini is the latest high-profile player to be lured back to Italy by the prospect of Magners League competition.

After three years at Toulouse and another at Bayonne the 32-year-old prop is return home after signing a three-year deal with Viadana, who are one of the clubs from which super team Aironi Rugby will be formed for the Magners League.

According to L'Equipe Perugini, who has 71 caps for Italy, will be joined at Viadana by Gloucester lock Marco Bortolami and Saracens hooker Fabio Ongaro.

Saracens tighthead Carlos Nieto and loosehead Matias Agüreo are also rumoured to be on the move.

Stade Français flanker Sergio Parisse and Clermont centre Gonzalo Canale have also been approached, but have yet to make a decision.

Looks like it could be a decent team if they can get everybody they're after.

Rumour has it Carlos Nieto wants to return to Italy too after he has recovered from injury. We all thought Aguero had already moved onto Arioni along with Ongaro..

I didn't realise that it Treviso and a franchise that were to be in the magners, just thought it was whoever was top 2 in the Italian league or something along those lines.
Will Aironi be at a disadvantage in that their players won't be together week in week out like the other teams in the Magners, or benefit from that they're the best of most of the italian teams put together?

Aironi once formed will be just like every other team in the Magners will it not? Why do you assume they wouldn't be together every week?

Also it's my understanding that Treviso is to become a franchise also, it's just the name they're keeping right, or am I way off?

I thought it was going to be like it is in the Super 14 in SA/NZ, with the Super 10 running (as the Air NZ/Currie Cup does) and then the Magners running over the top/taking players from the Super 10 teams for Aironi - but then again the SH counterparts run after the super 14.

Like, in this article it says that Perugini has signed a 3 year deal for Viadana, with an eye to play in the magners for Aironi? Unless his contract will transfer over to Aironi when they're formed?

I'm just confusing myself now :s

You're not the only one buddy, isn't it way past your bedtime, I'm usually the only nordie posting on here at this time as I live in the SH.

No way it like is a ML club ie. Munster are made up of clubs like Cork Con, Shannon, Garryowen and numerous more
The Ospreys are made of Neath Swansea and few more I guessing.

Both Italian Franchises will be together because the League goes non-stop unless there is a European weekend (which Italian Franchises are in) or International breaks.

Funny, all Italian players were leaving because the domestic game was poor and now they all mad to come back and well reality is they can be a lot better than we expect and Aironi been an unknown quantity may be a surprise package. I won't say they'll win ML but they will be mid table.
