Hello,

I think PC Games have been & always will be the best format for Gaming. There easy to Install & quick to load up on PC & Laptops, I have recently played Max Payne, Football Manager 2008, The Sims 1 & 2, Star Trek Bridge Commander, Grand Theft Auto Vice City all for PC.

What does everyone else play & think about different Consoles etc ???

Kind Regards

PC's cost £Thousands to be quick enough to run the latest games, have no end of O/S issues, peripheral issues, viruses, drivers, memory shortages and infinite other problems. And only come into their own with RTS (which generally suck), Champ Manager (which is only a glorified Excel spreadsheet) and The Sims (casual crap for the brainless fools who don't actually like games).

Consoles are specifically developed for games (well, Sony and Microsoft are doing all in their power to change that, but that's a different issue). The games are specifically developed to be optimised on the standard hardware, therefore run better.

PC gaming is useful though if you want illegal software or want to use the Rugby 08 MUP.

A bit bias of you don't you think???

Anyway, i have both a PS3, and a gaming PC. So here is my take on some of the issues:

PC Pros:

- Unparalleled graphics
- Update ability
- Fantastic media hub as well
- The choice of Keyboard/ mouse, Xbox controller or PS3 style controller
- A MUCH larger pool of games than consoles
- Lan Parties will ALWAYS beat any console get-together
- Much harder to get busted watching porn on it.
- Cheap/free online gaming with crazy amounts of members/users
- Good exclusive ***les: Starcraft II, Diablo 3, Empire Total War, NWN
- 90% of all Xbox360 games come to PC as well thanks to Microsoft
- Game prices range from free to a max cost of half the console game prices!
- Tweaking tweaking tweaking!
- You don't need to spend thousands on a proper HD TV, because PC games look awesome on any screen.

PC Cons:

- Price in setting up an initial system
- Installing/struggling with steam/Activation/DRM... Hassles...
- No guarantee of good frame-rates
- Bugs, Crashes, Patches needed, errors
- Some EXTREMELY good games never make it to PC (Fable II, Gears 2, MGS4, Final Fantasy...)
- Everything is always blamed on Piracy...

Console Pros:

- Out of the box performance
- Great ***les tailored for the machine
- Fun to play with friends in a controlled environment
- Very wide availability on all ***les
- Are relatively cheap (PS3 still needs a little price drop)
- Easy to set up
- Relaxing to play without having to struggle with cables or space.
- Great exclusives!!!
- PS3 has Blu Ray

Console Cons:

- Games are EXPENSIVE! Way too expensive
- If you get bad frame-rates on games, there is pretty much nothing you can do about it.
- You can't have lan parties
- No DotA (lol)
- If it breaks, you are pretty screwed.
- Extra's are really really expensive
- Little children play them
- Not many games are THAT good, barring the 3 or 4 exclusives a year.
- Without an HD TV, say goodbye to any form of good graphics when compared to PC.

This list only shows some things that popped into my head now. There are obviously more. These are also only my opinion and take on the platforms. All in all, i like PC, because i am in control, and because i love the games. I also like consoles, because they do have some great games. It's also nice to just pop that new release in, and get straight into it without much trouble!

Lets face it, if ANYONE here won the lottery, they would have a BEAST PC, as well as every console, with every exclusive, each on it's own monster HD TV. That is the truth, and we all know it!

Well at the moment I'm stuck with a laptop that was about middle-standard last year so my options are fairly limited. I wouldn't be too bothered if it wasn't so difficult to find PC games that haven't been released in the last few months in Cork.

Graphic quality has never been a thing that has been very annoying to me so long as they aren't horrific or really glitchy.

I've always found that I prefer anything strategy or remotely RPG and anything online FPS on PC but there's some games that are just better suited to X-Box/PS2 Controller. Sports games in particular.

Side issue....one thing that really annoys me is people who look down on gaming (as if staring at the tv is more interactive o in anyway constructive), and on that note people who look down on SCI-FI presuming that it's all just spaceships shooting lasers at eachother (but then again it's their own loss).
It's just like girls who for some reason find sport worthless...as if they can't think of the one of a very long list of benefits of sport. Euch, people eh?

If your a fan of FPS (First Person Shooters) then you should be using a PC. I dont believe anyone can really play these with a controller. Its got to be mouse and keyboard.

If you like simulators e.g. driving or football games, then the console is perfect.

Its up to you. Personally I have both x-box and PC but the x-box has been gathering dust for a while now.

a console set up can cost thousands and thousands too if you don't already have a nice big tv plus a decent sound system plus the console itself all adds up and on the 360 they make you pay for everything from wireless to online play. console games have had issues at launch too gears of war 2,fat princess socom all had issues that needed several patches to try and fix. ps3 games until more recently were noted in almost every review to have big issues from framerate drops to screen tearing hardly what I will call optimized or running well. pc games when done right have big advantages over the console from running at higher and better resolutions looking way better ( all of the console are running 5+ year old graphics cards now) being able to change the game through modding and benefit from a community updating the game even when the developer closes (see masquerade bloodlines fan patches are still coming out for that game and is why many are still playing it today) also some of that casual crap (that btw helps some devs fund their bigger ***les) comes to consoles as well so it isn't just on the pc.

pc gaming is useful if you want the best out of most games and are prepared to pay more to start with for better long term benefits.

anyway teh mite you are obviously a complete console fanboy or had some bad experiences with pc gaming whatever you are happy with the choice you made just as many of us although few of us on this board are happy to have spent money on our pc's.
