Honestly it might be the first football match I've watched since last years world cup if it happened....it won't.

Seriously disrespect to the referee & simulation are probably my two main issues with football especially the former. It just completely gets my goat and frustrates me that it's allowed essentially to add to the drama.

***le should read 'Owens would like to further boost his media profile by making comments in his umpteenth interview he know will get clicks'.

I'm sure that if he were to read the laws of football then he could ref a school game or a minor league game. Why not?
Yes, the disrespect shown to officials by players and managers is appalling and the FA or the Football League should take steps to eradicate it.

I've wondered now and again whether we shouldn't be having rugby refs do football games as a way of further practising their skills of observation and split-second decision making on the run. It's not the ideal training, but I'm not sure what is.

We should be learning a lot from the NFL's reffing system - obviously there is a cash obstacle, but there are lessons there.

And on the whole it works. A team of referees working together, with a clear hierarchy. A centralised booth for all replays for all the games, for consistency.

While I'm not sure how the system works in terms of reviewing referee performance in rugby, those reffing teams that perform the best throughout the season are the ones who are involved in the playoffs.

But that would require some honesty, openness and introspection from the refereeing fraternity!

I'm not a big fan of the TMO system. It seems to me it has allowed both refs and TJs to abdicate responsibility. I'd like to go back to a system where we simply accept that officials will make mistakes. They're human, but we've put them in a position now where they are able to largley avoid being crucifiede by fans and media and they take that opportuniyfar too often. I don't think it's that hard for three officials to get it right msot of the time.

I hear what you say, but TMO and the like is here to stay. We have it in cricket, tennis and football and who knows, maybe we'll soon have it in darts and snooker too!
It can be annoying when we have to wait several minutes while the TMO considers the facts before awarding a try or not, but it is now an essential part of modern top class sport.

The main problem with TMO is that they review the same angles over and over again. Usually, that doesn't make it any clearer. That's why it takes so long. Maybe they should set a maximum limit of times you have to review each angle?
