HE has been dubbed the best ‘amateur player’ in the world but will be a relative unknown in Wales.

Chauncey O’Toole is a Canadian and was named Player of the Tournament in the recent Churchill Cup in England.

But the 25-year-old, who plays amateur rugby in Canada, has caught the attention of the Scarlets and the Ospreys.

The flanker, who is expected to be a key part in the Canucks’ World Cup side in New Zealand, walked away with the Churchill Cup’s Player of the Tournament award last month.

He played 7 during the CC, but I think I read on here that he plays across the backrow

Good for him, anyway - was brilliant during the CC

He played for RGC 1404 also, looked good from what I heard at the time.

He certainly impressed recently for Canada and could well worth giving a shot for the Ospreys or Scarlets.

Would be a good signing for the Ospreys, not convinced the Scarlets need him, but I'm sure he'd do a job there as well. I saw him play in patches and seems like a good player to have onboard. Certainly has potential.

Would be a great signing for the Ospreys. I dont think they have much open side cover, plenty of 6 and 8s. most likely to see a back row of 6.George Stowers 7.Tupric 8.Ryan Jones next year.

I'm not too sure what the ratio is in the Celtic League. However, by the comments of Scott Johnson, it appears they are going to use him regularily amd give him every chance to make the number seven jersey his own.

I really hope the London Irish do the same with Jebb Sinclair.

Any one reckon they'll play Tipuric or O'Toole at blindside?

really, constantly......you might be exagerating...he played over 100 games

Wooo Hoooo, he had a couple more impressive breaks today against the States, the Canadian depth at 6-8 is substantial these days. I can't wait to see him in the Celtic leagues.

Great news! I am very happy for O'Toole and for Canadians! The player is too good to not do well. I think he´ll do one season there before getting a better offer to join a team like Racing Metro.

I put a piece about it on my site this morning: http://rugbyworldcup-argentina2023.blogspot.com/2011/08/ospreys-sign-chauncey-otoole.html

BTW a few USA players have picked up professional contracts in England and France´s second division. I´ll be posting then over the next week or so.
