[November Tests 2016 EOYT] Ireland vs. Canada (12/11/2016)

What 6 months can do! Our depth is going to be lethal come 2019

I heard an interesting stat. If Ireland empty the bench against Canada - which looks likely - it will mean a total of 18 new caps this year. Last year there were just 3 new caps. Some of those newly capped was down to the squad being stretched but most of them have improved the squad.

In fairness to Schmidt (albeit some by injury) he has built a massive pool of players all at a nice level.
John Hayes had to play on well past what he wanted was the shallowness of our THP depth. Now we can rotate. And there is many other positions like that. ROG had Paddy Wallace as his backup. (A 12 who is basically an emergency 10). Now we have legit competition.
I think at moment 9 is where we are still very light. But I think that will come right

Second row is also a weak area. If Iain Henderson, Donnacha Ryan, Ultan Dillane and Devin Toner are all fit, Ireland will be okay but beyond that, depth is an issue. Would love to see James Ryan push on over the next 12 months.

I like the team versus Canada. Tiernan O'Halloran can give Ireland an added attacking dimension from 15.

Garry Ringrose and Luke Marshall is an exciting partnership.

With relative inexperience around him, it'll be good to see Paddy Jackson take control of the back line because he could be Ireland's regular starting 10 before too long.

Delighted for Billy Holland as he's testament that hard work will get it's reward similar to John Fogarty winning his first cap in his 30s a few years ago.

Interesting to see if Ultan Dillane can take his chance and push to be a starter in a full strength team.

Haven't seen much of Jack O'Donoghue this year but have heard he's been impressive. With Jamie Heaslip about to turn 33, Ireland need to look at succession planning.

It makes sense to introduce Luke McGrath and Joey Carbery off the bench together as they've played together for Leinster and it'll be more comfortable for them.

Niyi Adeolokun on the bench is a credit to Connacht's coaching of a raw, talented player.

Dan Leavy has been superb for Leinster this season. I've a feeling that once he breaks into the Leinster and Ireland team, he'll be very hard to move.

Brilliant for Munster and Ireland that John Ryan has emerged at tighthead. He'll anchor the Munster scrum for another 5+ years and be a valuable, solid option for the national team too.

34 new caps under Schmidt in just three years and five days if the bench gets emptied which it will. That's incredibly impressive and an extremely good sign for 2019.

I agree. At lock we will be ok as there is nice options named there Snoop obviously if all is fit.

Yeah while we will miss Billy tonight he's fully deserving qnd is a typical Schmidt type guy. A rugby nerd with huge work ethic.

Jacko is playing great rugby and well this is just another stepping stone. Great experience for him as he's still only 22.

But likewise I live the mix in this and am excited to see it. I've decided to attend in to given how intrigued I am

This is honestly shocking Reffing in parts. Not Canada's try, but my god I hate the interpretation of the breakdown

As expected to be honest. Dillane, O'Halloran, Earls and Jackson showed why they've been the guys in and about the starting 15 this year. All debutants had up and downs, Ringrose, Tracy and McGrath showed the most promise. I think McGrath should be 21 next week and that POM won the battle for the bench over SOB. Earls v Ringrose is a question of who'd you rather bring on in emergency, Ringrose being the better centre wins it for him in my books but its a judgment call.

On this.
I thought Ryan and Kilcoyne really stood up and put questions to Joe. Ok Healy was good too. Kind of disappointed by Bealham. On backrow battle. POM probably just beat SOB but both are off pace.
Ringrose vs Earls is non issue. Both different options. My choice would still be Kearney out but if it battle between them Ringrose wins. He hasn't done anything to loose out and impressed today. Also we have Payne or Henshaw to cover back 3. And Earls is a winger
