Nordies vs. Dragqueens

This is what experienced players of top quality like Peinaar can do. I can guarantee that Ulster would have lost that match last year but now they seem to know how to win and sometimes the best win is an ugly win. With such a competitive magners league results are what matters and Ulster have managed to get a good result even if it was just against the dragons.

Whoop whoop whoop.

Can't believe I missed that due to booking the wrong airline ticket. ****. But...

I hope all of the Irish people watching enjoy that glimpse of their future back-line. I understand Leinster have a fine young scrum-half, he can play with them in green when Pienaar's not available :p

Why do you support Ulster if you're from England?

I just caught the ending too. It was a great finish to the match and the fans got full value for their money. Unlucky for missing out on it!

Saw the first half and the last five minutes. With so many young players on show, it was going to be difficult for Ulster. From what I saw, Gilroy, Gaston*, McAllister and Marshall played well. Jackson seemed nervous. Signs are good for Ulster's future.

*A solid debut. On the credit side he looked good under the high ball and was eager to get involved in attack. On the debit side he was driven into touch too often and his positioning was slightly off- notice how many times Tovey dinked the ball in behind him. Hopeflly he'll get another chance or two before the end of the season.

lack of experince really showed throught the game the subs really did steady the ship however if we can put out a three-quater line that young and still compete (and look good at times) against an alright magners league team bodes well for the future if these lads develop well

Madness?

Couple of seasons back as I started getting back into rugby in a big way, I wanted teams to support... oddly enough, never picked a English Premiership side, due to a number of reasons, but picked Ulster to follow in the Magners for a number of reasons (not Welsh, not Scottish, not too good, not too ****, exciting youngsters, the Ulsterfolk I know I like and not Welsh). Since then, what started as something to add a bit of interest has become more serious, as things often do - that would have been my second time going to Ravenhill, I've got my ticket booked for Northampton and I even found time to go watch the Ravens play.

Snoopy, Gaston normally plays at full-back so it stands to reason he was a little exposed on the wing. Definitley has a lot of talent but like most of the others, needs to adjust to what they can no longer get away with at Magners level.

I thought we were a little over ambitious at times and should have perhaps trusted more in the pack, but as Conal says, this all bodes well for the future.

Also, massive props to our Saffas. Obviously Pienaar gets the majority of the plaudits and rightly so, offer him everything it takes to get him to stay, but Pedrie had a massive effect on the bench and Johann Muller has just been a towering colossus of consistency all season. We wouldn't be where we are if it wasn't for him.

I hope it didn't sound like I was criticizing him because that's not the case. I was a very promising debut. You have to expect and allow for mistakes when you're blooding players. That Gaston didn't retreat into his shell and showed flashes of what he can do is great for Ulster. He'll grow from this.

Nah, just thought I'd point out he was out of position. And as you say, you expect mistakes - Gaston being used to being able to run down touchlines (nearly got away from Brew, very impressed by that), Gilroy's attempt to run it out of his own 22 in his first game, Jackson getting charged down... and so on. The positives outweigh the negatives and as you say, they never got overawed or lost their confidence. Which I think is the big difference between them and poor old McIlwaine.
