No replacement for Shanklin!

According to The Times, The Lions aren't going to replace Shanklin but are going to tour with 36. Because of this they reckon O'Driscoll will be 'wrapped in cotton wool' and may only play twice before the first test seeing as he's now the only 'top-line outside-centre.'

Surely this will be a big mistake; it leaves us short at 13 as well as 10 now.

After yesterdays performance, Geech is a mug for not getting straight on the phone to Danny Hipkiss.

There is still a game to go involving a few players expected to travel.

No rush to replace one player when after next Saturday you may well have to replace another few.

If it was Stephen Jones, don't listen to him. It was proved that he's a crap-spouting tosser a long time ago...

Well that blows. Agreed with Mite that Hipkiss would've been a decent call, given that Tindall and Armitage are the only other 'specialists' at 13 available.

It was Stephen Jones so maybe it's best not to read too much into it.

This is the guy who, when asked about his choice for The Lions squad, said he would leave out O'Driscoll. This was AFTER the 6-Nations as well where BOD was superb. Fair enough everyone's entitled to an opion but that's just ridiculous.

There are a whole host of players he can call on if he needs them I reckon though. Danny Hipkiss is the latest addition to that list I think.

the fact that D'Arcy can cover both as affectively though would give him an edge over a specialist outside or inside centre. Plus he'd be one of the few players relatively fresh going on the tour.

To me, the best player to cover Shanklin is D'arcy, he has pace, playmaker abilities, the passing, the experience, the physicality (he is a bit small compared to the Boks, but he can break tackles easily),anawesome defense AND he has a world class combination with O'driscoll, and I think that the last one is a good reason to his possible call-up to the Lions.

I like how D'arcy plays,he is a great centre

Got a feeling he will call a replacement up, I dont believe any real media sources with the Lions until it comes up on the official Lions site.

D'Arcy, Hipkiss and Armitage are the men for me

well it's been confirmed now, not the best decision they could have taken and no doubt one that will either be lauded or jumped on depending on the outcome of the tests, looks pretty stupid now though.

Ahhh well. To be honest they have the cover for both centre positions so not too big a deal really.

Just a shame for Darce.

Stupid question(I don't see much Irish rugby): Which are Keith Earls' positions?

Personally I think it's ok that they're not replacing him, smaller squad would tend to equal better atmosphere (or easier to manage at least) imo so i'm behind them on this particular decision. Still nervous about the fly half issue though.
