No league for Old Men - Pro 14 - R. 8

Wow. Kings showing some surprising backbone and score into the wind. First point in Kings Pro14 history!

And Ulster looks to have scored right back. Not the highest quality here but some entertainment.

Not that I am in any doubt that The Ster will finish ahead of Ulster it'd be nice if the Kings keep us ahead here, my support of them will also make me feel slightly less guilty when I deride their inferior rugby team on the 11th of this month and when I unfairly **** all over South Africa in a fit of jealous rage on the 15th!

I wish I'd stuck a wee bet on the Kings now! They're still long on PaddyPower so must have had an outrageous price before the match.

Did Ulster draw a decent attendance with their millions of South Africans they've had in their team?
If they played in the traditional rugby supporters heartlands then they might have. For this game they took it to the townships to try and spread the game to a part of the population that does not really care about rugby (yet?)
At one point i thought there were more traveling Ulster fans than kings fans but that turned out to be false. Still surprised to see that many irish tourist at a game in a South African township.

Ulster was given chance after chance to win this game. They played pretty bad considering the Kings kept knocking the ball. Better than the Kings but still bad.
For a neutral (most of the local fans in the stadium) it was an exciting match.

Kings 36 - Ulster 43

Credit to the BBC NI commentator. He cut out all the bias this time out and just commentated well on a good match. Hopefully someone has had a polite word in his ear.

Embra 16 Ospreys 10 at half time

Surprisingly comfortable now. If Ulster had flopped in Africa I would almost start to believe that third place in Conference B would be up for grabs by Edinburgh. They are actually able to score tries this year; which helps.

I'm two for five so far this week. (although calling the Kings was bold and after seeing the Ster team my opinion did chancge so I'm still awesome) I remember the days (singular) where I predicted all six games correctly and whether or not it'd be by a score of more or less than 7. This new comp is far better but it makes me look bad!

Frank Murphy reffing a team he actually played for only a few years ago is surely a tad dodgy.

Embra 37 Ospreys 10 Good win for the boys from Auld Reekie despite the National demands . They are beginning to look a competent outfit . More to prove !

Great try Adeolokun. He has absolutely gassed those Cheetahs. Has his frailties, but the boy can motor.

I'm pretty shocked by the reasonable performances of Glasgow, Edinburgh (to a lesser extent) and Treviso (not even a winning BP for Scarlets) without many of their internationals. It's so unpredictable I'm even starting to doubt that Leinster will choke in the knockout stages. :p

Connacht looking fairly solid. If they win here, I'll be 5 out of 7 for the week and it will open up Conference A a bit more too.

Bilbao, a week of heavy drinking and then Glasgow might be a bit much for the boys. Gonna have to work some magic twice against Scarlets during the 6 nations. (I reckon we've the toughest fixture list of any contenders)

Connacht coming good is exciting, I reckon the order in which you would rank the provinces could change again soon!

Edinburgh look very impressive. Relentless in attack hitting over 30 phases sometimes. Good to see, it wasn't long ago Scottish regional rugby was as bad as Italy's. Now it's as good as Ireland's if not better.

While they're improving that last sentence is a huge exaggeration. Leinster got a bp win away to Glasgow in Europe and Embra are behind Ulster, who are miserable at the moment, in the league table. Glasgow would be the second best province and Edinburgh are probably around the level of Ulster and Connacht at the moment.

Zebre had some lovely phases of play, but were hammered by a much improved Blues. I suspect teams may be working out how to play against Zebre's wildly attacking style.

Connacht reasonably comfortable against the Cheetahs. Mapimpi with yet another great try though. I'm really impressed with how seamlessly he has transitioned to NH rugby as I figured he'd get exposed. Another handy weekend of Pro14 action has bitten the dust.

It's not though is it. They have two teams, we have four all at a decent level when they come to play. Glasgow are very good, whacked Munster, but bottle it in Europe year on year shipping two disappointing losses so far (one at home to Leinster for a BP) and Edinburgh are improving, but they still lost to Treviso and scraped past Zebre by a point this year and aren't on a provincial level yet.
They're doing well with the very limited playing numbers they have compared to us, are really well drilled and play nice rugby, but they're not producing as much talent and are by no measure better.
Glad our league is turning a few more heads though and the Scottish revival is central to that. Now someone tell the Welsh sides, Scarlets aside.
