Yep - fantastic from Sir Cav. Most TdF stage wins of all time.

Absolutely incredible achievement. His team set him up well, but the way he wheel surfed in the last km, handled a bit of contact, found the space and lit the afterburners at just the right time was a master class in racing nous.

Need we say any more about Pog in le Tour? To totally dominate consecutive grand tours is amazing. Just has to stay upright in tomorrow's TT.

Suspect he'll now target the world championship in September which he's never won, although seeing how dominant he's been maybe he'll go against convention and go for la Vuelta - no-one has ever won all 3 grand tours in the same season.

He's usually involved in the world championship contender group but the course just isn't suited for him. Don't know what this years looks like but I imagine it will **** mvdp. He'll probably give the Olympics a proper showing. Cuesta would be impressive: three months of peaking.

he's taking time off of the American endurance series to make this trip. Some think he's doing it as prep for an around the world attempt. He'd be by far the best cyclist to attempt it plus he appears to have enough screws loose to break the record.

I miss the Tour of California, the route used to come real close to where I live. The eight day race covered about 800 miles and it ran from from 2006 to 2019. Then Covid-19 hit in 2020 and it's never returned.

He's one of Team GB's greatest ever Olympians, possibly the greatest ever when you consider his personal achievements and also his legacy on the sport
You see it when he's working at the velodrome as a broadcaster, with athletes and coaches coming up to shake his hand/ask for a photo

Hearbreaking and he just seems like a thoroughly good egg too.

To make it even worse his wife is battling an aggressive form of MS too.

Sometimes life just isn't bloody fair. A reminder that you've got to live for today as well as thinking about the future.

And IIRC he was forced to go public in the first place against his will through press pressure. Beneath contempt.

Yeah it is heart-breaking and considering what his wife is going through they've both been dealt a very rough hand.

As well as being a sporting great he always came across as a proper gent as a pundit. Hard to imagine how anyone could dislike the guy.

Sir Cav was either going to win his final race or crash and break a few bones. He chose the former so closing a stellar career, as so often, with arms aloft.

Brilliant career in one of the toughest sports of all. Big character who said what he thought and always wore his heart on his sleeve.

The sporting landscape will be poorer for him hanging up his Lycra, but it sounds like he wants to stay involved. Chapeau!

Another master class from Pogacar in the Tour of Flanders. Now has the most monuments of the modern era and will be amazed if he doesn't go on to equal or beat the most (legit) TdFs - that's 5, he already has 3 and at 26 has the power to add.

Also seems to be coming into peak years - last year was an unprecedented 2 Grand Tours, 2 monuments and the World Championship.

By the time he retires he'll be in the GOAT thread.

him and van Der poel are making domination exciting to watch. Sanremo was fascinating to watch with three different types racing to the finish. Hopefully this season comes out to something other than flat=MVDP and mountain = pogacar.

Yep. Van der Poel can challenge in the classics and Vingegaard in the TdF but as an all rounder Pog is on a different planet.

Let's see how he gets on in his Paris Roubaix debut. Not hilly, just plain brutal.
