The Brumbies have confirmed Jake White's appointment as head coach from next season as caretaker Tony Rea spoke of his disappointment at being overlooked for the role.

The Brumbies have fired just about every coach in Australia so it's no surprise to see them looking abroad. White should be a good signing for them. At least can't stuff things up any less than what they are now.

you not serious?!?!?!

Jake White is prob the worst coach apart from the current bulls coach i have ever seen!!!

everyone thinks cuz SA won the World Cup (Scrappy but a win) with JAke as coach he is good!!!

Jake is pathetic.....the tri-nations in 2007 and tests when Jake coached, the boks only managed to score intercept tries and with goal kicking...no backline play and same boring game plan, game after game.....

THEN in stepped Eddie Jones (wonder why...) don't know if anyone saw this???? :D but Eddie JOnes won the WC for SA...not Jake White....

anyways...after eddie jones arrived...all of a sudden the boks backline started to do moves (all Australian moves at that :D)

but no-one saw this.....then after the WC Jake White hit the road.....and left poor Pieter de Villiers with the scraps....

so don't expect him to perform...unless he left do more research on coaching/leadership/tactics etc in this 4years....

quite clever if you think about it.....cuz its going to look like he was good all along....

I think all people who know anything about rugby know Jake isn't all he cracks himself up to be and owes a lot of his success to Eddie Jones but take nthing away from him; at least he knows when to bring in consultants. I think PdV is a lot less effective/innovatying than Jake. He should be fine at Super level if he can get to grips with the different demands between test rugby back in the day and modern Super rugby.

I don't understand exactly what you mean though when you say that he left PdV with scraps? Also, the part about SA scrappy wins and I feel you very conveniently oversimplify and leave out the other teams' faults in the bold paragraph. Give credit where credit is due.

desperate times desperate measures.....that is why he brought in the consultants.....

SA teams for me over the years have always been the kicking sides...club level and international...cuz they had the kicking flyhalves...

so they used the backline as last resort and have always focused on the forwards "ONS MOET VOOR WEN" which is true...but that is not the only aspect ESPECIALLY not for exciting running rugby

look at your stormers....they focus just on defence...that is no1...then they play a territory game..by kicking in the 22 and waiting for mistakes by applying pressure..then they use flat defence to disrupt the opposition running game...Stormers play a football 11-0-0 formation every game..but the fans are happy cuz they win... "A win at any cost"....

i'm not even going to talk about the bulls...man they are crap....i'm not even going to waist my time on how crap steyn and olivier aka crashball is...they are pathetic....even the Coach mr Ludicris himself...

its weird when the bulls played the same crap game plan of now last year and they won...everyone was happy...the bulls are no1....gooi party....

now that they lose with the same plan..they are all of a sudden crap and struggling etc etc

then these same players get picked for the BOKS...kick and chase 50/50 kicks dowfield....flat defence....territory game....never runnign out of 22...running mauls for lines out everytime....kicking for posts whole time..."a win at any cost".....

what i meant by PDV sitting with the pies is that the BOKS were never good....in faact they were lucky to win the World Cup with that scrappy performances and easy run in to teh final and robbing england in the final...So everyone expect them to be the better team and dominate world rugby...then JW took off PDV came in...and they boks could not deliver...now JW looks like the good guy and PDV is the doos....if you understand what i'm trying to say....

where is SA on teh World Rankings....and how many times have they been on the top of it in the last 4years???? prob 2 times at most...

do they play the better rugby? no....

are they the better Team? no....

do teams respect or fear them? no....

Grand Slam ;)

Jake White will only be able to re-ignite the Brumbies if he gets onside with the players. If they don't like him, or don't like his methods, they will have him tossed, even if they are winning. Under David Nucifora, they were Champs, under every other (players choice) coach they have had, they have been Chumps.

they wont...the brumbies have always been a running team.....

jake white is a rushdefence type of coach...typical South African....he would be good at teh Stormers or Bulls....or any kicking team

Has Matt Giteau given the O.K for Jake White?

Doesn't matter, he'll be too busy trying to kick Philippe Saint-Andre out of Toulon next season :p

Agreed there. My point was that at least he brought in the consultant; I don't expect 1 man to be all and know all. I'd rather have a limited coach who knows where he is lacking and makes up for it than someone who carries on ignoring sage advice (PdV).

The Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions have all played running rugby and except for the Stormers those others still do.

I agree that the Stormers have gotten stuck in a rut and are so focussed on defense that they don't seem to go for those long range, team tries that was a bit of a feature of their play last year. Over all they do seem less inclined to attack with ball in hand but remember that a lot of that has to do with the personnel changes from last year and we've had a lot of disruption due to injury as well.

As for the Bulls having been crap last year but it was fine because they won... I think you'll find the Bulls scored the most tries last year and check it, Morne was the flyhalf with the most tries under his belt (5). They also had 4 of the top 16 try scorers (Steyn, Olivier, Spies, vd Heever). So, if tries scored = entertainment = a good team then the Bulls were top entertainers and the best team. Granted, they are waaayyyy off the pace at the moment but I think your comments are a bit off as they have won 3 of the last 4 tournaments so calling them a **** side seems somewhat odd.

Maybe I am not understanding what you are saying but I'd say that calling the Boks' win of the RWC 2007 cheap because the other 'big' teams couldn't manage to show up is just silly. Also, Tri Nations wins and a series win over a very formidable B&I Lions side also say the Boks aren't ****. So to does white-washing the All Balcks 3-0 in 2009. All this 2 years into the PdV 'reign'. Also, just because you are a decent side doesn't mean everyone expects to you to dominate world rugby as such.

That said, the ABs have been the more consistent team over the last decade. While the Boks have been the only team in this time that could at least compete and were consistently in 2nd spot at times 1 and only recently having gone to 3. With your logic any team not ranked no1 in the world is not a good team?

Huh?

It might actually be one of those rare cases where it will actually be an advantage for the coach to lose his senior players - no Giteau, no Ashley-Cooper, and perhaps Elsom gone as well

... If he is to succeed, he will probably need to get rid of some of the assistant coaches, such as Stephen Larkham, and also lessen the influence of ex-Wallaby, commentator, and RUPA representative, Rod Kaffer

I'm sure he'll bring his own people in, but his success or lack of success will be linked with how much support he gets from the Brumbies management, and whether they are prepared to sweep out the player power faction.

From watching the Brumbies play today, the only way an coach is gonna ignite this team is by dousing them in gas and tossing a match in because not only are they're playing like ****...nope that's pretty much it, they're playing dreadfully, its a wonder how they're 9th in the standings. Lots of teams who are usually strong have just been absolutely left for dead this year (I'm looking at you Canes).
