Tonight begins the pre-season in the southern hemisphere (Here the rugby season starts in April) and I still am with sharp pains in the back.

In late December I was diagnosed with scoliosis in the spine, I had very strong pain for 20 days and only stopped the pain with strong drugs. Throughout the month of January, the doctor forbade me physical activity (Specifically running and gym), just let me go swimming. Makes about ten days I came back to the gym (using a belt) but the pain continues.

The doctor's recommendation is to continue swimming for a few months and leave the rugby, but I want to play rugby. There are days where I don't have any kind of pain, and others where the pain appears. My physical condition is unfortunate, I'm slow and without stamina.

So if I want to get in shape for April, I must start with the heavy workout, but the pain remains. To a lesser extent but still continuous. Besides rugby is a sport that demands a lot from the back

What should I do?

Rugby now - Wheelchair tomorrow

Follow your doctors advice. When your back improves, then you can play again.

What Bi....

No, I'll stop! Better to take a season out so you can play in the future rather than go out now and damage yourself even further, however difficult it may be.

:p

and yes Conrad, mi amigo, don't do things that you'll regret dearly later. Suffer a lesser pain now and make sure you get back than a much greater one in the future because you couldn't keep your pants on. Chronic ************ is a terrible habit, and you could regret it later in your life.....that's the topic, right ?

Been a qualified physio can send you few tips but regardless you need time out. The back is something that will effect you all your life. Look you won't have to give up rugby but I'd suggest 6-8 weeks not just swimming but aqua aerobics too and well items such as a foam roller and lots of stretching will help.

shhit, even masterbassion is censored on this thing ?!

Chances of bigger injuries are more realistic now. I would go for a well deserved rest and when you receive the go from your doc I would start with cardio and weights. Just focussing on next season. No need to go out and play and end up aside with a stupid injury
