I agree feic that once these 2 franchises are up then we will see a 3rd team as Italian rugby will be looking to grow and one possibility could be a format similar to super 15 possibly

I wouldn't see a conference system working in the ML. The problem would be that you wouldn't have groups of 5 teams that are commonly linked. In the S15 you have 5 sides from each nation and they all play eachother twice. The fact is your conferences in a hypothetical 15 team ML wouldn't have these geoghrapic commonalities. Anyway with 13 being a prime number you couldn't have even conferences so it would null anyway. The only way they could go forward in my opinion would be to keep the round robin system and abolish the end of year play offs.

I believe the only way a conference system would work is if you had groups of nations close together which would mean Italy would need some French and possibly Spanish or Romanian teams to join them.

In any case I would say any new ML team would be that mythical Scottish 3rd team that keeps getting rumoured but never announced every few years.

I know that it probably wouldn't work but a 24 game season as well as playoffs wouldn't work in my opinion unless midweek games are introduced
