Moving Out

We're about to have a recession, so you might as well stay in Mexico. The housing markets in English speaking countries are insane, set for a big fall, and UK cities can be miserable for someone used to places like Barcelona. I hear a lot of financial types saying Brazil will be the place to live over the next few decades - but no rugby!

Why would he want to buy? He comes from a more continental culture which prefers to rent rather than buy.

As for the "miserable" comment, you could say that about any Northern European City, not just the UK so that would exclude the UK, Ireland, Northern France & the low countries, Scandinavia and Germany.

If he is coming to Northern Europe with a decent job, he'll be fine. Cities are only miserable if you have nothing to do and no money coming in.

EDIT: Cities like Bristol & Exeter are nice depending on the area. Also, you have that whole West Country/South coast vibe which just oozes coolness and modernity. To celebrate Easter, you could go down to Cornwall or South Wales for surfing and whatnot. And London is only a couple of hours by train.

Yikes - there's truth in that, but ...

Why would anyone want to buy? The UK truly specialises in miserable urban planning - everything organised for the benefit of motorists and supermarkets. Renting is expensive, but buying will prove to be a catastrophic loss maker.

I like Torquay, Exeter is good and Winchester, Bristol OK. Best town I've been to in England is Salisbury, but that is an exception and it's still not that great. Maybe Mr Mexico should fetch up in Basingstoke - but he'd need to bring a set of defibullators. Appalling dead place.

North France and the Lowlands are dullish, but there's quality there. Brussels? Sit down for a delicious beer - life's about enjoyment.

No experience of Scandi, but I'm sure the bold Clarkson would love to visit and ***** about how non-British it is while cruising some decent roads and wondering why the Brits don't do it the same way.

And yeah, having endless credit (not money) in a UK city makes all the difference - that's why Russian crooks have bought up half of central London. Crash coming - directly ahead. This is not a drill!

Haha I know :( I'll have to say goodbye to José, Paco and Raúl.

[/b]

Man... I wish we had awesome names like that here in NZ. They're badass, especially Paco.

Mate, he's coming here to study at University, not be the next Nicholas van Hoogstraten (i.e. House mogul). He'll probabbly rent a house with a load of mates.

Why Basingstoke? Its horrible! There are plenty of great English towns, just try to avoid the New Towns!

He actually liked Scandinavia but got into a spot of bother when the satnav on the Merc he was driving told him to turn left on a bridge...Denmark is very nice by the way but I hear rents in Copenhagen are astronimical.

Even more reason to rent! Stop giving him more reasons to go and rent a place Shtove! You're embarrasing the Property tycoons of the UK & Ireland!!! :p

Northern France is crap, you deffo don't wanna go there. Sweden is nice (for a family) but not for a student: people are not talkative, it's cold, and the food is really bad.

Southern France is the best I'd say. :bana:

The ultimate in student procrastination, Amsterdam!

Would live there ahead of where I am now. Then again Stoke-on-Trent is hardly known for its extravagant night life, unless you class knife fights as extravagant.

I know. We have some really neat names. Actually Paco is short for Francisco. And the short for José is Pepe. Maybe you could change your name to Paco, Pepe or Juan. That would make you the chick-magnet for sure.

What about Enrique? I'd like my name to be Enrique. It screams sexuality.

Or maybe even Chad if I feel a tad camp at the time.

Yeah! How does "Paco Ricardo Julio Enrique Sanchez Jr." sound? Seriously, having a name like that would give me a ton of street cred, way better than the same old boring names we have around here.

Yeah for sure.

It sounds like you're 5ft2 with a porno moustache, wearing a white suit, smoking a cigar and having your cronies sell cocaine to street kids all while you're having a Brazilian goddess running her fingers through your thick black greasy back hair.

Not quite, Enrique. The brazilian godess's fingers would run through his chest hair. And he would have to be fat. Not morbidly obese, just a huge belly that covers his belt.

Oh, and about the name, in hispanic countries we use two last names. You'll have to choose another one like Martinez, Suarez, Ramirez, Rivero. You get the idea ;)

Rico Suavez?[/b]

My alter ego is actually 'Ricardo Rodriguez: The Latin Lover'. Oh the fun he has been in!

hahaha this topic has turned into "What's your Spanish name?". Fortunately mine is Iñaki López. Not common in Mexico, but it's like John Smith in the Basque Country. I would like an English name though...

I was watching For A Few Dollars more recently, a lot of good Mexican names in that one. Tuco, Paco, El Indio, Nino, Chico.... I think I'll stick with Paco, although El Indio sounds like a real bandido's name.

You don't have two family names?

I have Vega from my dad,and Gonzalez from my mum, so I have two of the most common spanish surnames in the world combined. I think only Garcia is used more XD

It's funny you mention that Paco and Pepe are abreviations, my mums name is Josefa but she's never called Pepa unless my dad's teasing her, and my aunt is called Francisca, but all our dutch speaking realtives call her Cisca, while all the Spanish ones just go Paqui. It was especially funny when her youngest son didn't realise I was talking about his mum when I refered to Paqui XD

Anyway, ranting of again.
I'd promote Belgium, but though it's a great country to live in, that has pretty good social security that is available for everyone and a good standard of living in general, taxes tend to be high here. Housing would be cheaper then in the UK though xD
Not sure about hot girls, to be honest I think a lot of ignorant airheaded girls inhabit this country at times. But maybe you're into that XD
luckily not every person that is female here has to be interested in her nails only, wearing the right shoes, even if that means sandals when it's freezing, or watching the right tv shows.

Yeah, my full name is David Iñaki López Mejía, but I'm best known as Iñaki López :)

haha that's funny. When I was a little kid I didn't know my dad's name was José. Everyone called him Pepe, so his name was Pepe for me.

How high are the taxes? How big is the young adult population? How's the rugby? The girl thing is not a big deal. I think there are intelient girls everywhere if you know where to look. :)
