Discuss.

WTF?
That's quite some clearout... what is going on at Saracens?[/b]

The South Effrican Mafia have taken control and intend to use Sorries as their retirement home/off S14-season concentration camp.

Are they bringing the 'hybrid elvs' with them?

I noticed this on a Sarries forum:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
The Message Board may be interested in some facts.

1. Brendan Venter, the incoming Director of Rugby, met with each of the players, one after the other, on Monday.

2. He wanted to explain his plans for next season, openly and honestly, and to end any uncertainty.

3. Many of the players were enthused and excited by what they heard; inevitably, some were disappointed.

4. It would be completely inappropriate for the club to make any specific comment on these private meetings.

5. Clearly, every supporter will have their own view on who should play and who should not. Everybody has their own favourites, However, in any sporting organisation, it can only be the view of the coach or Director of Rugby that counts, In the England rugby team, that is Martin Johnson's view. In the Saracens team this season, it is Eddie Jones' view. In the Saracens team for next season, it is Brendan Venter's view. There is no other way.

6. Some will question why these decisions have been made in February, and not at the end of the season. Other clubs may choose to adjust their squads in April or May. Our logic is that, by being open and honest in February, we afford the affected players a realistic chance of finding a new club. Selfishly, the club could have waited until the end of the season, but most clubs will have finalised their 09/10 squads by then and, in all probability, the affected players would be left high and dry.

7. The club is already working with the various players' agents and the PRA to assist in securing their futures, and, without exception, the club will act decently and honestly.

8. This has been a difficult week, but the reality is that Saracens is not immune to the economic realities being faced by many companies across the country.

9. The club has complete confidence the professionalism and commitment of its current squad, and looks forward to a strong end to the season, under Eddie Jones.

Thank you for your support.

Make of it what you will.

Typical spin written by a club employee.[/b]
That's exactly what I thought. At no point did he refute the rumours, he merely dodged the issue at hand with some inane rambling.

In fairness out of that lot we'll miss Jack and Owen. The rest are replaceable

Be quite happy to see us take Johnson and Skirving. It is a sad state of affairs though, I can't see the club going anywhere other than backwards.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
London - All Black great Chris Jack is set to be released along with 14 of his Saracens team-mates and will be replaced by mainly South African players according to the BBC on Tuesday.

According to the BBC incoming South African head coach Brendan Venter - the defence coach at Super 14 side the Stormers and who will effectively replace former Australia coach Eddie Jones - informed the players on Monday, though, the club would not confirm that was the case.

"It would be completely inappropriate for the club to make any specific comment on these private meetings," the club said in a statement.

"Many of the players were enthused and excited by what they heard and inevitably, some were disappointed."

Saracens are largely run by a group of South African investors who also have a stake in provincial sides the Sharks and the Stormers in their home country.

It is believed that the players who have been told they will not be retained will be replaced largely by players from those two Super 14 squads.

The English Premiership club did add that they were trying to help the players sort out their futures.

"The club is already working with the various players' agents and the PRA (Professional Rugby Players' Association) to assist in securing their futures, and, without exception, the club will act decently and honestly.

"This has been a difficult week, but the reality is that Saracens is not immune to the economic realities being faced by many companies across the country."

Jones, who acted as a special consultant for the 2007 World Cup winning South Africans, announced on February 9 that he would not be staying on after the end of the season for 'personal reasons' despite holding a three year contract and having been in the post for just a year.

Venter, a former Springbok international, has previous experience in England having coached London Irish.

Jack, who won 67 caps for the All Blacks till joining Saracens midway through the 2007/08 campaign, has made 25 appearances for the club scoring three tries for them.

The 30-year-old lock enjoyed a successful career with the Canterbury Crusaders, being named Super 12 player of the year in 2002 and New Zealand player of the season in the same year.[/b]

Hopefully they steal all the replacements. <_<

This is just stupid, isn't it? Saracens had built a quality squad that were competing well (HC semi final?). Why are the Sarries board allowing this to happen, what's the benefit, so Brendan Venter can carry on working with his South African players? Rediculous.
