September 19, 2024 - The Dallas Jackals have informed the league that they will not participate in the 2025 competition. They are continuing to evaluate a controlling interest transfer which will not be complete in time for them to plan for and compete in 2025. MLR will continue to work with Dallas leadership on transition plans in the days and weeks ahead.

Our focus is on the team, its players and planning for another successful MLR season in 2025. An announcement about the player dispersal process will be shared soon.

What does a league like Major League Rugby need to do in order to be become "stable" and grow?
Since 2020 five teams have folded while one has relocated and while there has been growth in the form of new franchises, this seems to come on the heels of teams leaving. I know that one of the things that MLS did at the beginning was to retain control over the franchises and significantly limit the number of foreign players in order to promote home grown talent until there was a large enough fan base to support expansion and privately owned teams.

Is this something that would benefit MLR?
