Tigers meat their match in Lamb

London Irish made up for their close loss to Leicester in the Premiership Final last May by beating the Tigers 18-12 at the Madjeski. Exiles Fly-Half Ryan Lamb scored all the points for Irish who now go back to the top of the table.

Man of the match Lamb kicked 6 penalties and really should have kicked 7 if it wasn't for a terrible kick at his first attempt, however he didn't let it affect him and will have made a decent claim to be in line for an Egland call up for the upcoming internationals. For the Tigers, penalties by Jeremy Staunton and one by Ben Youngs always kept the game close.

The game itself won't be shown as an example of a classic rugby match, the 80 minutes littered with knock ons. Irish had a great oppurtunity within the first few minutes after the kickoff found Steffon Armitage in the Tigers 22 but the chance wasn't taken. Irish also had a try by Sailosi Tagicakibau ruled out after the final ball was ruled offside by refferee Wayne Barnes. Leicester went ahead but Lamb who hand shrugged off the first effort, kicked the Exiles into a half time lead of 9-3.

It was England who suffered the most from the game as Julien White tore a hamstring and will miss the Internationals.

It was more of the same, ill dicipline and handling errors in the secon 40 minutes and Lamb and Staunton traded kicks. Leicester's Lewis Moody was sent to the sin bin in the 2nd half for persistent infringements. Ben Youngs gave the Tigers hope with a kick that brough the scores to 15-12 but a futher penalty from Lamb took the game out of Leicester's reach. In fact Leicester nearly missed out on a losing bonus point but an 8th attempt just drifed wide in the last 2 minutes.

Irish may not be on top for long as if Saracens beat Leeds the the Watford outfit will head the table by Sunday night.
