Lions - Six Nations 2025 Auditions

Not sure what people see in Prendergast, wouldn't have him anywhere neer the Lions. Slow, indecisive, static in attack, weak defensively. He's got a decent boot and that's about it.

He may come good, as he did look decent at age grade, but I think people just assume he's good because he plays behind a dominant Leinter pack most of the time.

Taking both Prendergast and Fin Smith seems a bit mad when you look at the combined number of caps. Marcus Smith has already been on a Lions tour and has plenty of big game experience plus can switch to 15 if required.

Russell, Marcus and one of Prendergast or Fin has a nice blend of experience and youth. I think Prendergast goes as the the third option unless Fin Smith really tears it up in the last two rounds.

FH is interesting because I think Russell is the only experienced fly half playing relatively well. Marcus Smith has experience but has been dropped by England whether fairly or unfairly. No one is playing well in Wales at FH. Finn Smith, Prendergast, Crowley etc...are all pretty young and inexperienced.

If you go with M.Smith and Russell for experience then who else? I don't think anyone else has hugely put their hand up as a bolter and tbh the likes of F Smith and Prendergast would probably benefit more from staying with the national setup and developing their game there.

At this stage it feels like whoever gets picked as the 3rd FH will just spend most of their time training and maybe get a midweek game off the bench.

Wondering if Tom Jordan is being overlooked. He is starting 10 for Glasgow and can cover 12 and 15. Ideal versatility to be a Lions tourist and has given a very good account of himself in this 6N.

Also depends if Faz wants to give a young FH a taste of the tour with one eye on future tours. Think I'd go Russell, Marcus and Prendergast.

I'd like to see M Smith go with Prendergast, see how M Smiths goes, assuming the plan is to be somewhat expansive with Messi's inclusion this is far more suited to M Smith than the England setup, whilst F Smith gains some experience and we can start to see if he's worth all the hype he's recently received as current flavour of the month.

I hope Prendergast doesn't go. A light summer with a sprint and S&C focus will do him better. He doesn't need to be a very explosive player but needs the ability to ride a tackle to bring the offloading game he had at 20s to international rugby.

He's still getting used to the pace of things but that will come. Thought he was pretty excellent from 10-40mins yesterday, especially controlling McCarthy's YC. His play to isolate Penaud on 38mins was class and should have resulted in a penalty. Not game defining but could have made thongs closer.

Hoping Finn Smith puts it to bed with two comfortable wins (preferably a 2-3 try one v Wales now)

See I was thinking the opposite. I hope Prendergast goes so Finn gets some game time in the summer to develop with England. Tbh, I think Prendergast going would affect Ireland less as they'll still have the most players in the Lions so he'll get some familiarity. Most England players will still be with England so better for Finn there.

Is this where I start telling you Finn's better and you tell me Sam is as if we have any influence over what will happen?!

Perhaps in 4 years but not now. There are at least 3 much better options at 10 ATM.
