LEE BYRNE could be the next big name Wales star to depart the Ospreys, with French champions Clermont Auvergne trying to sign him, writes Delme Parfitt.

The crack Top 14 outfit are prepared to buy out the remaining year Byrne has left on his contract at the Liberty Stadium – and the Ospreys are thought to have listened hard to their overtures.

The proposed transfer is not completed yet, but it could be within the next few weeks if details between the two clubs can be finalised.

Byrne, 30, is ready to try a new challenge in French rugby and there is financial appeal as well.

Wonder if Ospreys will bring in some big names from other countries, or promote their younger players next season,
Henson, Hook and now Byrne missing, they're dropping like flies!

The rot has begun and I have heard a few grumblings. Scott Johnson apparently is like a virus in there.

At least you still have the great one. I think he would do well in France when hes on form his style really suites the French style.

Kearney+1, why have you done this to meeeeee?!?!?!

Well you better add something else to the philosophy of cyRil ... F.L.B.

Is money drying up there but if you ask me the Ospreys will miss Hook but other 2 they can cope with.

Yeah, cuz we have another fullback in our squad.....

Bad news for the Ospreys if it happens, great news for Welsh rugby. We despirately need another fullback for the Welsh team, and Prydie looks like being the best 'long term' option. However he's getting zero gametime due to Byrne playing most games.

Apparently the Ospreys are looking at Mils Mullinia :)o) and Morgan Stoddart if they can't keep Byrne.

I was wondering last night who they'd try and snag if/when he leaves, and did think Mils.
He'll be coming to the end of his ABs career now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him head up north after the WC, could link up with Collins and Holah at Collins (or any of the other All Blacks dotted around France I suppose)

Ye mentions that in the article I linked it too ...

Be mad if they get Mils!

Mad but I can see it happening, for Byrne I can see it being a great career move. He suits the French game.
