Knock-out phase

Let's see if the ladies can maintain the tradition from the men's game, of France knocking out NZ in the SFs...

Finishing 3rd seed has definitely worked out for England.

Nz v France should be the best game until the final
Yup.

Saturday's QFs should both be blow-outs.
Sundays have the capacity to be interesting, but never-in-doubt.

NZ v Fr should be a brilliant match, and could go either way (now that NZ have actually turned up).
Eng v Can.... bit of a toss up between it being a brilliant match, or never-in-doubt.

Final could be a cracker... within the realm of world-cup finals (which never really produces great matches)

Disciplinary panel's gone soft. proven biting really should be more like 12 months than weeks

I see the All Blacks are playing* at the same time as the Black Ferns here - way to torpedo your own world cup!

* From what I here, Japan suggested the time, and NZRU agreed without thinking about their own world cup - idiots

Looking at the officials - interesting that the 2 best ref.s are both stuck on the sidelines this week - presumably they'll get a SF each. This weekend will be the decider for who gets the final, as I'd expect neither Cox nor Groizeleau to be eligible (in which case, Davidson would be my choice; but I suspect NZRU will pull rank and it'll go to one of the kiwis)

4 favorites for me , although some games will be closer than expected.
Still will stick with Fra v England for final and again a one score game.

Well, enjoyed most of the black ferns match. But Black ferns in every game have looked tired in the last twenty, making errors, not securing rucks, being a bit loose in defence. Not confident for the semi, but proud of the team already.

Currently watching Fra v It's.
France so much better, but so sloppy. Dropped balls, stupid decisions - helped by some really committed defence by Italy.
IMO really missing the control of Menager, Sansus and Trémoulière

That penalty try and yellow has to be a killer for Italy though, especially around the same time as the bench comes on - a strength for France, but not for Italy.

ETA: yup
ETA2: very yup

It will be either ATB or Neville in the final for me. They are far and away the best refs in the women's game right now. Their work in the men's pro game far out shadows Davidson's tier 3 international.

How the hell was that not a red for Williams on 58 minutes?

Tackle is a little late, but fine, then there's a lift, twist well beyond the horizontal, and a dump onto her head.
Ref says mitigation for pulling out of it, but that's no mitigation if it's a head first dumping. Tackler is responsible for the ball carrier's landing, bailing out is an aggravator, not a mitigator!

Surely it can't be ABT after today's performance.

Oh, and IMO they can only be considered the best in the world I'd you're also discounting Cox and Groizeleau.
I think you're also being harsh on Davidson, but I agree she's not in the class of those 4.
