Kiwi Release

indeed gg...

im gonna spend a gud day of like 6 hours playing and give it a final review...

im just gonna say that at this very moment its the best rugby game i have played since the days of jlr...which is like 10 years ago

hmmm....shall see if it has the longevity to match...

but wish me well....i shall be sick today, locked in the room with the curtains closed and my 30 spoon sugar hits every 15 minutes

Fogot to mention the offloads. This has been balanced nicely with the intercept possibility....so you have to decide whether to do it or not.....

Also the intercepts are way more realistic. The days of passing with free abandon are over.

Meh... im not liking it aye....

Multiplayer is good..

But singleplayer.... :/
Wow Mox!!!!

Its been a while :)

Thomas Henry dosent like it either. Overall though there seems to be more excitement than disapointment.

I am so unhappy at the moment! Today, I got my Video Ezy to hold 'EA Sports' Rugby 06 on PS2 - I was explicit with the EA Sports part, I asked to make sure 3 times and they said yes it was definately the right one. When I got there I was presented with a copy of RC06 - a game that I'd bought about a month ago! I am ****** off!

Poor you :(

Well we have been playing the game for 4 days now and it is amazing that you can actually dodge past a person (multiplayer) the way that we used to dodge in JLR. This must mean that JLR days may be coming closer to an end and being resigned to memory (RIP).

Still tring to get to grips with a few slight diferences compared to R2005. Mainly the quick pass.

Excellent game so far though!

yeah but nowhere near as good as 06 :)

and the 3D grass OMG

ok there is 3D grass, but u can only really c it in the cut scenes but the graphics are sweet

Impressed, very very impressed.
There is good variance in gameplay, occassionally a random team just beats the crap out of you (well thats what ive found) i just won a tri nations on medium with NZ, went to the world cup, destroyed every team and lost 10-7 to England in the frickin final thanks to a wilkinson field goal in the 77th minute. I was happy because i expected to coast through.
Gameplay is fast and responsive, but what really impressed me is that a lot of the players feel like there counterparts.... playing through the world cup i noticed: Tana tackles himself silly, McCaw wins a lot of ball at the breakdown, jerry runs and hits hard, carter controls the game with the boot and darts through broken defence and Nonu breaks a hell of a lot of one man tackles.
The team AI is good also, southern hemisphere teams seem to play a more attacking style, south africa looked to counter attack with habanna a lot from open play. England kicked for the corners and never really attacked from outside the opposing 22. I thought that was a nice touch, you do seem to have to adapt depending on who you are playing.

I have only one major gripe besides a few statistical anomolies....
Has anyone noticed if you kick the ball into the oppostions goal, the fullback is completely incapable of predicting where the ball is going? Ive scored four or five tries in the last world cup i played, where the ball was bouncing towards the dead ball line and the fullback dived towards where the ball bounced getting nothing but air. Considering it took about 10 seconds for Rico Gear to get there i wouldnt think a dive, let alone a poorly timed one would have been a good defensive ploy.
It was funny the first time, but its starting to get annoying now....

Very happy with it overall though, far exceeded my expectations.
Have completed
S14 (won with hurricanes)
2 Lions tours (Lions beat Aus and SA)
Tri Nations (NZ)
Six Nations (Wales)
World Cup (lost with NZ)

Got it this morning, it is a very good game.

I'd prefer to be able to control the direction of my offloads, but more often than not they go to the right place. Very smoothly implemented too. Good work.

Nice touch with the kicker choices. Effectively you can have 5 completely different kick takers. Naturally I did this in my very first game... The novelty wore off before I even got to Carl Haymans turn...

The sidesteps etc. are brilliant. You can now step someone quickly enough to get away from the swarm of defenders as well. Works very well.

Just been playing a World Cup, and am up to the Semi-finals. I'm losing to Australia over and over again. I really want to win this so I can unlock stuff... It always seems to be Australia scoring first through Sterling Mortcock every time (I never did like that interc... Uh... c***) and finally beating me in the last 10 minutes of play. HB obviously did their homework :p

The music is absolute ****. Theres this one song with the worst lyrics I have ever heard (even worse than "Lonely Day" which is an alleged ****-take, so doesn't count anyway....)... ****** me off. theres only a couple of songs I can bare with...

Presentation is brilliant. Can't ask for more. The menus are very nice, all of the images are well put together. The uniform selector looks damn damn damn damn damn cool... So does all of the player selection screens with their little (recognisable) pictures.
In-game theres some great focus effects to blur the cut-out crowd to make it look more realistic. The steam, the field, the players all look perfect. damn fine.... All with minimal EA logos. Theres a couple, but it's a lot better than Rugby 05.
Presentation gets a 9.9 out of ten. Because theres no such thing as perfect.

Basically, if this game can last me a while, then I am very pleased and my confidence in HB Studios are at an alltime high.

Man this game on multiplayer is starting to become similar to JLR!

In R2005 it was easier to tackle people with the run in tackle because the animation would "lock" on early. With the is version the locking on does not ahppen unless you are closer.....therefore more breaks are being made by me and my mates when we play each other as we need to be deadly accurate when we do the run in tackle due to the fact that the lock distance is smaller. So there has been a lot of dodging stuff like JLR was!

The hands in the ruck stuff may take a while for me to sort out as the system is not like R2005.....you can have a go at playing the ball without getting penalised to an extent.

Also when it comes to getting turnovers I may take a while trying to figure out how this happens exactly. The manual says that this is subject to the factores surrounding every tackle....however I feel that the hands in the ruck button may also have something to do with it.

Can we hold onto the ball after we are tackled....the way you could in R2005?

If somebody figures out the programmed code for holding onto possession for a longer time from ruck to rucjk could they let us all know?

I've been doing the 05 tactic of holding on to the ball, but I can't yet determine if it works or not. >_<
Rucks still seem very random. They're better than 05, but it's still very scripted....

Fun game.

Hold R3 down.

The game feels a tad faster than R2005.....

......however the passing is slightly slower responding to the command in my opinion. Particularly the catch and pass command. It is like you have to activate this a bit too early otherwise it won't work. The problem is often you don't decide to catch and pass till the last second. R2005 system of catching and passing was better.

Ultimately if they had the freedom of passing that R2006 had then it would have been a beautiful game to play. In their attempt to make it too simulated they have killed a fair chunk of the passing. Also if you CHANGE direction and pass then the player has to WAIT a split second before passing just to cater for the new animation......that split second is crucial.

EA needs to get this right for R2007. Yes the game looks better this year.....but some things may have gone backwards and the passing I feel is one of them. WCR the original may have been a baby game (I have yet to play the second version) but at least you could pass fluidly.

The offload part of R2006 is ok but not perfect. How hard could it have been if when it gave you the option of "offloading" you simply pressed a pass button of either left or right? In other words a second chance of passing???? Why didn't they just make it that EVERY tackle that was low where the ball carriers arms were free gave you the option to offload.....and balance this out with the offload being dependant on the turbo button NOT being pressed! This would have been more like a sim as the turbo button should be ball in ONE hand sprinting hard out.....therefore no offload, while no turbo button (both hands carrying the ball) means the ability to pass if tackled low (just like in real life). All smother tackles (run in tackle) nullifying ofloads.

The offload PASS would also be dependent on the position of the ball carrier falling to the ground in relation to the intended receiver. JLR had offloads that were loopy if you were tackled into a compromising position which became a target for an intercept. So you had to choose whether it was a good idea to offload or not.

...and finally.....I hope we figure out this rucking system because if it again feels like it is too automated.....ARRRRRRGH!

Well, I just figured out how to score a try almost all of the time... Well, not really, only about 80% of the time.

You all probably know this, but you know when you do a cross field kick using the box-kick from scrum-half? Yeah, well, thats silly... When you're about 15 metres in from touch, do a little box-kick down towards the blindside wing over the defenders head, change to your winger, momentum will get you to the ball first, step the fullback or pass to supporting player. Try. It looks damn cool, but I'm going to ease up on it now.

...But damn it looks cool.

I just beat the ABs 21 - 17 with the Lions and in one of the tries in the highlight reel I had Dwayne Peel do a little kick over howlets head, Shane Williams ran on to it and immediately after he caught the ball, he stepped Muliaina for a try. This was from the 22 Metre line. All in about 4 seconds. Damn it was fine... To top it all off, he simply placed the ball down like it was the easiest try he had ever scored... f*** it was cool...

One way i have found is that pretty offen there is a gap between 10 and 12 so just go through it but it can usually only be done with no.10 or a forward running on to it.
