Clearly the only tournament/cup worth talking about this Autumn.

Sale Sharks vs Newcastle Falcons vs ........Leicester Tigers (how northern....).
All competing for the coveted Richard IIII cup.

Saw a nice comment about this elsewhere: Forget half a millenium, this'll be forgotten about in a car park after half an hour.

Also, how much like a boyband do they wanna look in this promo?

It's quite fitting that Leicester are playing in a cup whose name is based off a series in which incest is a common theme.

Is it odder than Glos, B**h and Exeter playing a pre season tournament in Bristol?

No, because the people of Bristol deserve to see top flight rugby too

I see this going down well in Yorkshire. A Richard III cup contested by Lancastrians, people from treacherous Percy-land, and the guys who didn't care about him until he became a tourist opportunity - all without Yorkshire there? It's just not on.

Coming from a Munster supporter!

The lost the right when they lost the War of the Roses.

Speaking of: I'm continually surprised that Sale/Leeds don't do an annual War of the Roses game as part of pre-season or something. Get a trophy with the roses on, the whole shabang, make it into a proper tradition.

I'm guessing Sale's logic is why bother playing a crap team every year?

Most AP sides play a level 2 team in the pre-season. Anything to add a bit of interest has got to be a good thing I'd have thought.

Infringing on my Heptarchy based franchise/region system idea for England a little bit.... :ranting:

If only our women looked like Cersei instead of Samwell! My Jamie Lannister good looks are for nothing fortunately I have both my hands still.

Mind you Munster can't talk.

Although the North was Stark who didn't bump uglies with their relations.

The Lancs can have their rugby pre-seasons. Means we have more time to practise our black pudding throwing for the real Northern sporting event of the year.

Another Lord Of the Rings fan I see......

Opening game today:

Newcastle 22 - 36 Sale
3 tries vs 6 tries

Most of our tries scored by our young backs, which is always good to see - hopefully one or two can step up to first team rugby as we're a little light in the back 3 with Cueto and McLean gone. According to reports Nev Edwards was very very good - he's been flitting in between championship and NL1 clubs for a few years, but we brought him in for the 7s and are trialling him in the 15s. Very fast and with crazy stepping - think he went to school with Cipriani (from what I've gathered from twitter, anywho).
Forward dominance too, apparently. Changed 13 of the starting 15 at half time, so everyone got a good run out. Scoreline slightly flatters Newcastle as they got an intercept try with the last play of the game.

Yeah an odd game in the sense we had a host of trialists (2 of which I very much doubt will be signed up in Bevon Armitage and the Fijian 7) and academy lads in there.

At least its nice to see some of our kids getting a run out and some competition.

Sales Sharks 38 - 5 Leicester Tigers
6 tries vs 1

Mujati with a try on debut, apparently went well in the scrums too. Lost three props to injury over the course of the game, which is far from ideal - hopefully nothing major.

Odogwu with another try for Leicester though guy really excited about him!

That speed to score the try v Argentina was amazing.

And for once in a while a young academy back is getting meaningful game time. Cockers is impressed by him from the sounds of it.

TBh our Scrum is going to struggle hopefully we have Logo, Rizzo and Ghilrandini come start of season.

From a Falcons point of view Im glad that young Scott Wilson has really come through strong this pre-season.

He had a bit of a "second season Syndrome" last year...but looks really good so far. He took the Georgian front row to the cleaners before the WC.
