One of Welsh rugby's forgotten men will attempt to kick-start his career by spending 2011 in New Zealand.

Tight-head Prop Jamie Corsi, 22, has targeted playing in NZ's National Provincial Championship for Auckland via Papatoetoe Rugby Club.

The ex-Newport Gwent-Dragons and Scarlet has suffered major back, elbow and shoulder injuries.

The uncapped 2007 Wales tourist to Australia said: "The timing's right now to go out [to NZ] and try my luck."

Corsi played for Wales at Under 16, 18, 19 and 20 and also played rugby league at Wales age-group levels Under 13, 14, and 15.

But after being released by the Scarlets at the end of last season, the 6ft 3in tight-head prop, who is currently training with London Wasps and playing for London Scottish in English rugby's third tier, says he has yet to return to the sort of condition that would warrant a top-flight professional contract.

Forgotten man indeed, rushed back from a series of injuries and broke down. Hopefully the move to NZ will re-start the career.

Suprised none of the other Welsh posters have said anything about this guy.

Auckland club rugby would be about the same standard as the english championship as most of the NPC and NPC B players play in it. good on him

Tbh, I don't remember much about him. I remember that he was a decent prospect, but can't remember his strengths and weaknesses. He's still very young for a prop, so plenty of time for him to make it if he's got what it takes and he can stay injury free. The more tightheads coming through the better.

Was he a good scrummager?

Yes good. Its a pity all the injuries he's had have just kept on setting him back. Going to NZ will only benefit his game.

yer i remember a few articles in the western mail about this guy saying that he's gonna be the future etc.. looked quite decent from what i saw too, having so many injuries early on in your career sucks arse tho, so good on him for sticking at it and going away (will defo do his playing a world of good... our rugby boys are in the media wayyyy too much;also the standard is probs better in general out there). Good luck to him :D
