James Broadhurst retires.

Pretty sad news - wonder if Ngatai's return had any impact on him officially retiring.

James Broadhursts case is a bit different and worth paying extra attention too.

I've always said how important is for players to be taken off the field and not return if they suffer a head knock. Even if they seem to recover.

James is in this situation because he had an obvious and significant knock and was allowed to play on then received another blow in the same game.

And that was it, that ended his career.

The trainers basically played Russian roulette and it backfired.

interesting you can see what happened on the video here: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/92007212/concussion-a-headache-for-decades-with-head-injuries-knocking-many-out-of-the-game-and-worse

the knocks were within a few minutes of each other and the first one was obvious and significant. he should have been taken straight off. IMO If he was taken off after the first knock and given time off to recover he would likely still be playing today.
