The battle has begun like we all knew it would. Racing Metro is the first club to come out and say that there are to be implications against Argentine players now that they will be unavaliable during The Rugby Championship matches which will mean those players selected will be unavaliable for the first seven weeks of the Top 14 Orange and then after returning following the final match (vs Australia) on October 06 the Pumas players will then miss all of November. Racing have four Pumas - three are certanties for the tournament and the other a possibility. Juan Martín Hernández, Juan Imhoff and Alvaro Galindo will make the cut with Juan Orlandi a maybe. The club is likely to not have them full time until december.

Racing´s President Jacky Lorenzetti said (in French) "I am not going to pay for players that play part time and I don´t know if the Argentines will continue playing in France"

I am not surprized about this but one thing missing is South Africans with Frans Steyn also playing for Racing Metro and also likely to be missing for duty as may players from other sides such as Gerhard Mostert (Stade Français), Gurthro Steenkamp (Toulouse) Ricky Januarie (Lyon) and Bakkies Botha (Toulon) Not to mention Muller and Pieenar from Ulster and Smit of Saracens.

In any event, Montpellier and Pumas fullback, Lucas González Amorosino, said last week that he doubts most Pumas will be playing in France in the future. He thinks players will prefer to stay below the equator to play Super Rugby. The UAR also said last year that it is to centrally contract the senior players.

Anyhow below are the articles.....

Solution talked about today by Agustín Pichot and Mike Eagle (Chaiman of SANZAR)

Pichot
"Since four years ago we have been holding meetings with the presidents of the French and English clubs. Racing Metro´s President said he would consider hiring Argentine players in the future, while other clubs and the players have signed knowing the situation. (The likes of) Patricio Albacete, Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe and Marcos Ayerza (have all signed long term deals to stay in Europe). What protects the Argentine rugby is Article 9 as SANZAR requires to play with the best players. It says that clubs must release themselves or other players during 12 rounds, to play international matches. The intention is not to force anyone to play for the country, nor break their contracts with their clubs, but in the transition from Europe to the South, consider their breaks and economic contracts. "

Eagle
"We would like to establish the process for young players to be incorporated as soon as possible. I would like to participate in all competitions, even Super Rugby. One of the main topics of discussion was to ensure that the Pumas would have their best players, and that no problems would arise whether they were to play in the Southern Hemisphere or not. We are dedicated to having all the necessities to have the best possible team."

I don't think it's a negative stance, it's just logical. The fact that a player will be absent for some time is a factor against hiring him. Obviously, argentine players will be still hired; Albacete or Fernandez Lobbe for shorter periods of time is better than not having thel at all (to name just a few), which is the case of Frans Steyn or Ruan Pienaar. Evidently, not every argentinean player is in that same spot, though.
Argentina in the 4N will cause at least one of these two: less argentinean players will be hired in Europe, or they will have to assume lower salaries. Think about it, would you buy a car that works only ten months a year? You would buy it only if it is very good, or if it is cheaper than the others. Or both.

To be honest, if the Super Rugby season hadn't been made so long the Pumas would be back by mid September
