Leandro Cedaro has been playing well this season in the Pro d2 for Mont de Marsan and Santiago Phelan has been in contact with him but so has Jacques Brunel. He is a secondrower, a quite a good one and right now Italy have few players of quality in the area. He will train with the Italy A squad after the Pro d2 final and will play for either Italy A in the IRB Nations Cup or for Italy in the tour of Argentina and North America.

For more info click here.

Unfortunately this may be just the first as Brunel is interested in a certain 23 year old centre Puma from England´s second division.... Juan Pablo Socino

Meh, if he chose to play for Italy so be it. I dislike the word poach, it's not like they're forcing him to play for Italy.

Agreed. It's a modern, professional game.
If he wants to and is fully capable of doing so, fine.

Pfft. Of course they're forcing him. What do you think they have the Mafia for?

Juan Pablo Socino has been released today from his contract with Nottingham to go back home to spend more time with his family.

Toby Faletau is one thing, Tom Court is another.

Sergio Parrise and Gonzalo Canale are Argentine players who went to Italy before adulthood. That makes then genuine Italians. But, Cedaro is not like this at all. Since Phelan had been wanting him and has missed out to a country where he does not live in or play in then things are not so great. A loop hole that Cedaro was able to choose. I, myself, could play fro Scotland but am not a Scot and have never been there, ever. Hell, if the SRU contacted me saying they were interested in me playing I´d be pretty happy but this doens´t make me a Scot.

If poaching aint the word then what is....

In my view it can be close be being mercenaries. Cedaro aint Italian nor does he play there. He´d be more believeable playing for France. This is what makes Georgia and the progress so good. All the players are Georgian.

Yes, but he requested to be released. He´s got offers to play at the premier level as well as an offer from PladAR

Stop right there with bringing Faletau into this debate. This argument has been on the board loads of times. Let's not go there.

I'm not quite certain what qualifies you to tell a man what identities, pride and nationality he may or may take from his parents. Do you perhaps know him well? Have you held long conversations over dinner about how Italian or not he feels?

Or is it more that you choose to blind yourself to the complexities of national identity so you can best express you fury that somebody should turn their back on a rugby nation outside the traditional European/Sanzar powerhouses? That's what it comes across as.

Yeah Faletau is more Welsh than Tongan. Court's a strange one in that no one really cares. Not a bad player but one nearly everyone is indifferent about. Hadn't been playing rugby for long before coming to Ireland either. Australia can have Ruaidhari Murphy if they want in compensation...

Read, people. "Toby Faletau is one thing, Tom Court is another" means he thinks Toby is right to play for Wales, Court is not right to play for Ireland. He makes the parallel: Parisse and Canale are right to play for Italy (as Faletau for Wales), Socino and Cedaro are not (like Court for Ireland).

Personally, I don't mind. If Argentina will need him, they should make it explicit, so he has all the information before choosing. My guess is he wouldn't be playing for los Pumas anyway.

The interesting thing about Faletau is that he actually said in an interview that he considers himself more Tongan than Welsh!, probably because of his ethnicity and cultural background though.

I can't believe I've read a conversation about foreign players and not heard "England" and "Hape" or Flutey"!....maybe i spoke too soon!

I think they should change the rules but it is not ours to judge where a player feels he belongs. Especially if they have lived in a few places. I have lived in 3 different countries for an extended period of time and would play for any of them as i have a connection with all of them.

Like M. Tuilagi feels english, fair enough i can't say he doesn't.

Ehh, I considered but couldn't muster the energy. I'll try one last time;

England! Pouching ********! Hape! Not to mention cricket! KP!

Back on topic;..... bit of a non-event really.

Like mentioned before the game is professional and combine that with collapsed borders and it gets kinda hard to point fingers without knowing every angle to each 'story'.

We just enjoy stealing things. Sportsmen, words, Spanish gold, food, countries... it's a national tradition. So respect it!
