Italy centre Gonzalo Canale has been cited for dangerous tackling during his side's Six Nations defeat by Scotland on Saturday.
Canale was named by independent citing commissioner John Byett and his hearing before a disciplinary committee will be held on Wednesday.
It was centre Canale's pass to Andrea Masi that set up the full-back to score a 10th-minute try at Murrayfield.
That put Italy 5-3 ahead, but Scotland rallied to win the game 21-8.
Scotland's win lifted them above their opponents and off the bottom of the table, although only on points difference.
Now Argentine-born 28-year-old centre Canale, who plays in France for Clermont Auvergne, finds himself facing a suspension.
