Is the 2021 Lions Tour Doomed?

Maybe i am misquoting him by saying he is anticipating the bio bubble to be broken. It should rather be that he is saying that if it does get broken, then we have a multi layered plan. First draw from the bubble and then only if we cant then we draw outside the squad if needs be.
Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus said in a statement that the team 'had followed all the necessary precautions since the start of the three-week conditioning camp hosted in Bloemfontein', which included mandatory Covid testing three times a week.
Do you think that he understands what he's saying? How can it be true? Either someone has broken the protocol or the protocol isn't strict enough to prevent the possibility of infection.

He is just calming the journalists asking these tough questions. Would you rather they say no there are no contingency plans in place because there is no chance the bio bubble will be broken? Is it not better to plan for all eventualities, and at least from a PR perspective calm the Journalists nerves, because they will be writing articles on all the eventualities and sure as **** will ask the coaches about it.

But apparently Jantjies was infected at his province and there are rumours they knew about it and he played while sick. (Emphasis on rumour, cant be spreading falsehoods, will try and get you a source)
So all the players just joined up, Vincent Koch picked it up in England. The Bio Bubble is not exactly formed if more players are still arriving. We are also waiting for the Toulon contingent.

Once all the players arrive, they can lock it down from the outside and the bubble starts in earnest. For now every player coming in is a risk, even if they are tested.

I would rather people were honest and properly appraised of the necessary mitigation measures. You seem to have fallen for the popular trend for binary thinking, it doesn't apply here - not everything in life is an either of scenario. You can have a coach who understands what a bio-secure bubble is AND have contingency plans in place at the same time.

So why didn't they quarantine for long enough to demonstrate that they were clean before risking infecting more members of the bubble? This is bubble 101.

FYP.

I find your argument fair.
The Jantjies case should have been better handled. The truth will soon come out.

Anyone know who the infected is and players isolating?

I think we are looking more and more likely that the Lions and the Boks will go into 2 hard bubbles and will just play the 3 tests.

I agree, the midweeks are probably more of a risk than they're worth at this stage.

Can't be long until the plug is pulled

No chance. $500M in broadcast revenue is on the line. The games will be played. It doesn't matter if they need to play the waterboys and trainers to get it done, it will be played.

SA aren't exactly doing well in that department currently any ways. :p
This is no evidence that the Delta variant can be stopped solely by a bio-bubble. It might infectious enough that outside of complete and total quarantine that it will spread.

Perhaps it is time to go from metaphorical bubbles to an actual bubble from the outside world?

People said the same before the 2020 Six Nations, to be fair

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled all games outside of SA A and the three test matches.

But they will play all three test matches. SARU need the money and the Lions need the money.

Again, this might be like the NFL games where some teams were down a dozen top players, but they still played. We might see strange lineups, but it's going to be played come hell or high water.
