Better than D'arcy or Paddy Wallace though.
Debatable. In any case, it isn't a progressive selection is my point. If he wasn't good enough two years ago, why should he be good enough now? Ah right, he's playing for Munster now. Kidney's selection policy of only picking players in Ireland (with a few notable exceptions) is laughable. Him picking Downey now is essentially an admittance that he doesn't care about form or ability, but more about where you play. Shambolic. No wonder Irish eligible players in the AP are being encouraged to play for England these days.
In any case, the situation at 12 remains pretty grim. McFadden might get a look in, but I don't really think he's up to it. The argument could be made again for moving BOD into inside centre and putting Darren Cave outside him, but I'm not sure how much I want to see him moved. He's certainly got all the attributes, but he's most effective at 13 so I'd be inclined to leave him there. As a lot of you know, my preference is to eventually slot Luke Fitzgerald in there for both province and country. He's got a lovely step, is a good defender and distributor and is a fairly intelligent player, but lacks the out and out pace to be a free scoring wing. With the luck he's had however, it's debatable as to whether we'll see him play again, or at least hit the heights of 2009.
In any case, if I were to pick my side for the AI's today it'd be something like (going on current injuries, etc):
Earls, Bowe, O'Driscoll, McFadden, Gilroy, Sexton, Reddan, Healy, Best, Ross, Ryan, Toner, Ferris, O'Mahony, Heaslip
Bench: Court, Fitzpatrick, Cronin, Tuohy, Henry, Murray, Madigan, Zebo.
