Easterby Names 36-Player Squad for 2025 Six Nations

Interim head coach Simon Easterby has named a 36-player Ireland squad for the 2025 Guinness Men's Six Nations, with Caelan Doris selected as captain. Easterby steps in for Andy Farrell, who is leading the British and Irish Lions tour this summer.

The squad includes one uncapped player, Leinster prop Jack Boyle, who participated as a Development Player during last year's Autumn Nations Series. Joining him as Development Players are Hugh Cooney, James McNabney, Ben Murphy, and Cathal Forde.

James Lowe and Dan Sheehan are expected to rejoin the squad in Portugal, pending successful returns from injury.

Ireland's Six Nations campaign kicks off on February 1 against England at a sold-out Aviva Stadium. The team will then travel to face Scotland, Wales, France, and Italy in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament.

"The Six Nations is a tough competition, and we need to be ready from the first match," Easterby said. "I'm excited to work with this group, and the players are eager to take on the challenge."

Forwards: Ryan Baird, Finlay Bealham, Tadhg Beirne, Jack Boyle, Thomas Clarkson, Jack Conan, Caelan Doris (captain), Tadhg Furlong, Cian Healy, Iain Henderson, Rob Herring, Cormac Izuchukwu, Rónan Kelleher, Gus McCarthy, Joe McCarthy, Peter O'Mahony, Andrew Porter, Cian Prendergast, James Ryan, Dan Sheehan, Josh van der Flier.

Backs: Bundee Aki, Caolin Blade, Jack Crowley, Ciaran Frawley, Jamison Gibson-Park, Mack Hansen, Robbie Henshaw, Hugo Keenan, James Lowe, Conor Murray, Calvin Nash, Jimmy O'Brien, Jamie Osborne, Sam Prendergast, Garry Ringrose.

Development Players: Hugh Cooney, Cathal Forde, James McNabney, Ben Murphy.

They can finally drop Byrne as they've found Prendergast to take the unathletic skinny role that Sexton filled for so many years - Ireland must always have one, but only one, 10 who has never touched a weight before
ROG, Sexton, Byrne, Prendergast - the prophecy must always be fulfilled

English fan sees a player that can pass a rugby ball and immediately starts checking out their body.

I knew it was bad over there but the desperation is jarring.
Irish Fan sees there squad doing well for three years prior to a world cup and immediately starts thinking they can actually win it.

If only there was a body to check out,
Looks like Jack Skellington in a pair of adidas predators
Hey look, no judgement. Different strokes for different blokes.

And speaking of, watch as Sam lovingly strokes a ball into the hands of his esteemed teammates in a couple weeks. A skill not known in the premiership.

I think Prendergast is very good,and I wouldn't call him "unathletic" 🤔
ps this thread is terribly funny 😆

Depends on whose balls he's stroking

On a more serious note...

I'm glad to see there is serious succession planning going on for 2027, when the plan has clearly evolved to a masterful work of art by a fox who is professor of cunning. We're replacing Church and POM with.... Church and POM.
Genius!

I mean you've got Baird, Izuchukwu, Prendergast and Boyle in that squad, they'll all be around in 2027 and we won't even be halfway into the cycle by the end of this championship.

I think the succession at 10 is going very well. Osborne has been blooded in two positions and come through to the point he's probably ahead of Henshaw in a full strength 23. Joe McCarthy has been brought in and established himself. Gus McCarthy coming through gives us three hookers who could take us to 2031. Two of the apprentices are centres. I just don't think the replacement prop or 6 are high on the succession agenda. Seeing how bad the set pieces were in November, having to experts in to help the younger lads makes sense too.

3 is by far and away the biggest worry. Tadhg Furlong will get the Sexton treatment for the next 3 years but that's not a guarantee of anything (hello Rory Best). Bealham is older again and Tom O'Toole could still go either way. Clarkson is a total hail mary so it's not like they're not taking risks where deemed appropriate.

I think my only issue is Tom Ahern not getting a look but he's up against Baird and Izuchukwu who are the same type of player so it's understandable.

Blade ahaed of Murphy is uninspiring too but I don't think Farrell brings guys in without an apprentice stint and he's shown he's happy to play the apprentices also.

I don't think we've beat Scotland for awhile have we?

I only watch Scotland when they play us. I didn't realise it was possinle for them to beat teams.
