Ireland ravaged by injury

all seems a bit harsh on trimble
many of you mention that j murphy has to be ahead of him as murphy is scoring lots for club
well so is trimble, trimble has been good for ulster the last couple of years. he even scored one of the best individual try's of the H cup last year

also yesterdays cardiff game trimble played nearly a full half at 13 and not once did i see him knock it on or drop it

I think Trimble adds something different but doesn't really fit into the Irish game plan at the moment. He is physical and a strong runner but I don't rate his ball skills highly at all. Horgan has been playing well but would he benefit Ireland in the long run. Carr needs to get back to scoring tries. McFadden is playing well and he will probably be Ireland's future 12/13 but he is not getting great top level game time at Leinster.

Trimble plays well for Ulster but never for Ireland. Has had to much chances and won't cut it so let's try others. And it big difference between a ML game when Cardiff have few with welsh squad and an international.

Unquestionably Trimble doesn't deserve to be called up but he's rated by Declan Kidney so is likely to get the nod assuming injuries take hold to other players. I'd equate it to the John Hayes situation. When Tony Buckley got injured, it should have been Mike Ross who got the call but Kidney prefers Hayes for some odd reason.

If I was to rate Ireland's wing depth chart options at present, I'd go with this:
1.Bowe
2.Earls
3.Fitzgerald
4.J.Murphy
5.Horgan
6.Carr
7.Trimble

Snoop I agree with you on that ranking as I think the level and consistency players are at has to be taken into consideration. Also I think Ross shouldve been given a go vs either NZ or SA regardless of Buckley been injured or not.
I thought Deccie would know this too from Munster vs Gloucester in '08 when Marcus was injured in warm up of QF and Buckley had to start (fair enough at 1) but he struggled at start and fact is Tony is a big confidence player so when that goes he goes. Luckily Freddie saved day then on our own 5m line winning his first scrum against the head and that changed game (as well as Patterson :))
But point is these tests shouldve been used to test combinations and players for depht. Ross didn't deserve a ticket never mind a spot on bench last year but now he is playing regularly and on form so test him and if he is miserable dump him but only then. Like my point is also reffered to Johne Murphy as he's in great form and his record shows he scores tries so Trimble has had too many chances and failed so dump him and let's test the guy on form.

I can't be arsed to get into this whole argument again, it's mainly opinions and I've said mine often enough (including the bit that says Trimble's not in form and probably shouldn't be playing much for Ireland right now) but -

Trimble's only been an international for five years, during which time he's missed plenty of games for injury
Johne Murphy's try scoring rate has hardly been excellent - 2 in 10 for Munster, 17 in 68 (starting 57) for Leicester. For reference, Trimble's on 33 in 108 for Ulster. Which is a superior strike rate with an inferior team.
Suggesting that Fergus McFadden, specialist centre who has arguably not even nailed down 3rd choice for his province, should be ahead of an experienced international winger on the wing is just ludicrous

There's enough reasons to say Trimble shouldn't be starting for Ireland right now without delving into factual inaccuracy and complete hyperbole.

Oh, and I thought Trimble looked good down under this summer until he busted his hand.

Trimble has 30 caps. Is 26. Has been around the squad for 5 years. If in that time (injuries or not) you can't stake a claim which he hasn't and in times when chances are up for grabs then he never will.
So you can deed me all this about him been good in White of Ulster but fact is he could turn water in to wine in a white jersey and it wouldn't effect me in the slightest but in a green jersey he on a continuous basis makes errors and fails to deliver and facts are there to say that so let's give others a try. Munster have 2/3 Leinster have alot of academy guys like Conway etc and well these should be allowed there chance instead of keep returning to a guy who just isn't doing it. Now I don't know is it his heart just isn't in it for Ireland or things just don't seem to happen but fact is we need to build a squad capable of delivering and that has to start now.
Also Johne has scored 28 tries in 99 appearances for Leicester in all competitions Peat so I think his strike rate deserves a shot. And for Munster may I add his appearances have been in different areas and he hasn't settled in to the wing spot that will be his when there is a fully fit team
End of rant :)

I haven't seen most of Trimble's five years with Ireland so cannot comment - but stand by what I saw in the summer. And would point out his international strike rate isn't too shabby either.

Does Murphy eserves a shot? Sure. Excellent strike rate? Nope, nein, nada. What you using for your stats btw, I used scrum.com for Murphy. And if playing in different positions is a defence for low strike rate, that goes for Trimble this season too. Murphy's a good candidate to have a shot, not someone screaming out for caps. In fact, Fionn Carr is the only Irish winger without a good bushel of the things who arguably is.

End of the day, we will have to agree to disagree - and Kidney reckons he's staked a claim, and he's the person who matters. I can't be arsed/do not have the in depth watching history to argue on a lot of these things, just felt I had to point out your statements were a bit wild there - like suggesting Conway's seriously in the running for an Ireland cap as things stand!

No I agree Conway not ready yet but over the past 5 years Trimble just hasn't produced and yes he did ok on summer tour but never built on it and think back to Italy in 6 nation he was again very poor with awful handling.
I have my stats on every munster player here on a file asi lucky to work for them but your stats are correct for English Premiership only but doesn't include Europe etc

Just update to say Tony Buckley has been passed fit for Sunday so John Hayes will probably play for us this weekend before playing for Barbarians next weekend

I am just happy to see what Ireland can do in this situation. The chances of them having their perfect team for the RWC or after the pool stages is unlikely, this is a great chance for guys to try and step up to at least cement a spot in the RWC squad. Who knows the line might just click.<O:p</O:p
