Ireland 6 Nations 2012

Cronin has been in class form as well be interesting to see how he goes tomorrow.

After Earl's performance at 13 today, if he gets selected before Cave, O'Malley or McFadden then I really can't see how anyone can get into the squad. After D.Ryan's performance today and Touhy yesterday, I think the 4 jersey is now a straight contest between them 2.

Ryan will start at 4 because he's got an established 2nd row partnership with O'Connell at Munster already. I still think Tuohy and Toner are neck and neck to be backup lock. I'll be disgusted if Kidney persists with O'Callaghan or brings in Cullen.

My current prefered XXII is as follows:
Kearney, Bowe, Cave, McFadden, Trimble, Sexton, Reddan; Healy, Best, Ross, Ryan, O'Connell, Ferris, O'Brien, Heaslip. Subs: Cronin, Court, Toner, O'Mahony, Murray, O'Gara, Fitzgerald

Leinster: 8 + 3
Ulster: 4 + 1
Ospreys: 1
Munster: 2 + 3

Henry is very close to O'Mahony, Tuohy is very close to Toner and Earls is close to Fitzgerald.

With the forms Fitzgerald's been in Earls is nowhere near him.

I <3 Tuohy

Don't know why, though. Think I saw a game a season or two ago where he absolutely demolished anyone in his path.

Toner is playing well and has proven many wrong this season but I still think Ryan and Touhy add more grunt that is needed, saying that Toner would be useful against Grey in the lineout.

On Thursday Greenwood said Sexton is the best outhalf in the world. Which is an overstatement however he has been the **** recently will he finally bring his club form to international level?

I think he certainly has the potential to be.

Can't wait to see the list for this six nations! i can't say who it will be part of the squad, hope Trimble that is going very well but for the rest i'm waiting for the names!

Declan Kidney could very well leave us in a very serious bind in about 2 or 3 years with regard to not having any experience in some pretty vital areas. One need only look at the bind Munster were left in after Kidney's spell there. Sure, the short term results were pretty good, but there was no one left to take the places of Wally, Quinny, Hayes and so on.

We're in desperate need of two new centres and a pair of second rows. A new 7 would be helpful too. We're more likely to try and plug those gaps with members of the existing squad as experience is favoured over potential in Kidney's mind. If we're very lucky, McFadden will play 12. Earls will obviously get the 13 jersey and Tuohy and Toner won't get a look in over a bunch of lads in their early 30's.

England will more than likely make 10 changes (give or take) from the team that lost their quarter final in september. Wales have a young team as it is. France have immeasurable depth. We're more than likely going to find ourselves in 4th place in a season or two under the current regime. If we were to name a thirty man squad none of these guys should not be included:

Leo Cullen
Donncha O'Callaghan
Gordon D'arcy
Tomás O'Leary
Gavin Duffy
Isaac Boss
Paddy Wallace
Geordan Murphy
Shane Jennings
Tony Buckley

None of them will be used in 2015 so drop the deadwood eh Deccie? 10 new players in the squad would breath fresh life into a stale oul' national team and think of the good it would do the likes of Paul Marshall, Tiernan O'Halloran, Eoin O'Malley and Darren Cave to be round the squad if not in the 22

Not that any of that will happen.

I'm beginning to have a bitta faith in Kidney... I think he feels the pressure from the public and from rugby writers. Everyone is saying Earls doesn't deserve to be in the 22 but Kidney'll probably start him at 13. People said the same thing about O'Leary being the starting 9 before the RWC and Kidney didn't bring him in the end. Same goes for Fitz. maybe we'll see a McFadden-O'Malley/Cave centre partnership yet...

I wouldn't say that Earls doesn't deserve a spot in the 22 per say, after all he's an excellent finisher. His only problem is that he is an out and out wing, whatever the Irish management might think and considering that Bowe, Fitzgerald, Kearney, McFadden and Trimble are all going well and can cover more than one position, it's hard to see where he fits in. That said, I'm not adverse to having him in the matchday squad, just as long as he isn't put in the midfield.

And as far as public pressure goes I don't know how much that comes into it. His hand was pretty well forced by TOL being continously terrible. After that performance against France I think even he saw through the red tinge.

Doesn't really matter who Kidney picks because all he wants his outside backs to do is chase kicks put in all day long from his halfbacks.
