Inter conference points transfers

[TRF_stormer2010]

Last year I had a hell of a time working out interconference points transfers. Then it was to determine "relative conference strengths". This time round I will be keeping "score" merely for the sake of interest.

Round 1 was only intra-conference games between 4 SA sides so nothing to note.

Round 2 had the expected result of the Sharks putting points past the Hurricanes.

So now in round 3 we have 2 inter-conference games with the Rebels hosting the Cheetahs and the Hurricanes finishing their SA tour off with a stop over in Cape Town to face the Stormers. Predictions? Myself.. I'll go with two home victories.

Round 4, however will see some action as we have 4 interconference games;
Hurricanes vs Brumbies
Reds vs Cheetahs
Crusaders vs Stormers
Bulls vs Blues

Looking forward to seeing things develop and if anyone else has any interest in this.

I'd probably agree that the two home sides will win this weekend, although I'm expecting (or hoping) for close games ... the Rebels were very good in pre-season, but the Cheetahs are playing pretty well at the moment, and who know what they'll do if they get a dry track.

I'm hoping for a better showing from the Canes (no doubt you are hoping for the same from the Stormers) ... it's hard to imagine both sides playing as badly as last week.

Despite the majority of the points coming from local derbies due to the way the competition is now structured, and that not all of the teams get to play each other in the cross conferences, the points gained from the cross conference games often seem to be the points of difference between who makes the play offs, and who doesn't

Updated the OP to reflect round 3 results.

Both the home teams get the win but in varying style;
Stormers scraping home at the end to win by +1 and 4 log points but giving away a losing bonus point to the Hurricanes.
In contrast the Rebels (who looked good pre season) came in and blew the Cheetahs who had 2 games behind them already and got a break away try off a turn over at the death to inflate the score and claim a bonus point for their fourth try.

Very early in the season so one can't say these values reflect anything yet.

Next week we'll have 4 inter conference matches so things should start to move. Again I expect all home wins though I won't put money on the Bulls to beat the Blues in particular.

Both sides just about managed to do just that. There were more signs from both though of things that might hopefully come; Stormers created a number of opportunities but couldn't finish while the reverse was true for the 'Canes; finished their two opportunities beautifully but they seem to struggle to get into scoring situations iin a controlled game.

Yes, the Canes snatched defeat from the jaws of victory ... hats off to the Stormers for their comeback though

... it must be hard to be a Canes supporter ... my Crusaders are no wins from two games, but I think I'd feel worse if I supported the Canes

Sadly for me I'd be surprised if they didn't pick up a home win against us come this weekend T_T

Updated the OP and we've seen major changes with the NZ conference getting back big time through wins over the travelling Stormers and the big win over the Cheetahs while only giving back a difference of 2 log points in the Lions' win over the Blues. Aussie remains ahead but will start travelling now and thus far the travelling teams have struggled.
